I want to do something different-but have no car, and not much money.

I'd love to get away on a very small budget, or just do something a bit different one weekend.

My children are nearly teenagers, so they are a lot harder to please! So I would love some ideas and inspiration of what you so when you feel fed up with it all

The thread on here about camping mentioned staying in youth hostels. That would probably be easier (than camping) by public transport as you wouldn't need to carry loads of stuff and could be fun for your DCs. You can book a private or family room instead of staying in a dorm. I used to use them a lot, prior to DS, and met some great people.

Agree with the hostel thing.

Another suggestion. Have you looked into www.singlewithkids.co.uk
They have good prices. And camping too, without the stress of car and tents. Might meet some other good single mums along the way.

IKWYM amazin. I tried Sun holidays for £9.50, then they added another £64 supplement cause I didn't have another adult with me.

Do you have a same sex dc? I often find I can book a B+B for the night and their quite happy sharing a bed. And the other in a single.
Did that once in Cornwall and got offered a good rate when I booked in. It's the chance you take yes, but a little negotiation always helps and the dd's LOVED it. My eldest dd is 13 and she's more than happy to share a bed.

It might be worth looking into a Family railcard also? You get half price and dc's get 33% off the full price....it costs £20 a year. You made your money back in one journey.

Just some thoughts? x x

Are you on income support or WTC? Would your children be happy to do something for a few days away from you?

If so look here
www.doit4real.co.uk/

Places get booked up really fast, but you might still be able to get a free or subsidised one. Worth keeping in mind for next year if you can't get anything this year now!
