Could court order a Tuesday to Wednesday 50:50 term time pattern?

XH wants us to change to a 50:50 arrangement in term time. I know that this is often what is agreed in family court, but he specifically wants the kids with him every Tuesday and Wednesday. The pattern would therefore be: Monday-me, Tuesday Wednesday-him Thursday-me, alternate weekends. This is to tie in with his work pattern. I think this sounds shit for the kids and especially shit for me. Does anyone know if he might get granted this specific pattern in family court?

Also why only term time, what’s going to happen in holidays, he can’t have 50/50 and not include holidays. It would be better if on the weekend he has them to also keep them Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday and then the following week just the Tuesday and Wednesday. That would be 7 days out of 14. What would you want and what would work for your working.

Givemeausernamepls · 30/03/2026 08:12

What is it currently and what are you proposing? Why does he specifically want those days?

I know 50:50 where it’s week on week off or every other weekend then usually mon/ Tues one parent. Weds / Thurs another.

Myfridgeiscool · 30/03/2026 08:14

How old are the kids? What do they want?

Addictedtocustardcreams · 30/03/2026 08:17

He has every other weekend and a Tuesday night. I am not keen on moving to 50:50 as he hasn’t proven to be a great dad over the years, but it is the particular pattern that I think will be really awful for the kids (and for me!).

the holidays are already 50:50 a week on and a week off.
the kids are 11 & 13 & initially when he brought this up did not want this arrangement. But they have apparently had “lots of chats” about it and are now happy to change to it.

I am free from end of school every Wednesday Thursday and Friday, I work a long day Monday (but my partner works from home so is in when they get back from school) and Tuesday when they are at their dad’s. I moved my hours around to accommodate him after arrangements were discussed at mediation.

I agree that sounds rubbish for them - too much coming and going.

Myfridgeiscool · 30/03/2026 08:27

So, ex wants more time with the DC. Is this so he can stop paying child maintenance?
At 11 and 13 they get much more say in what happens. What do they want to do?

Zippidydoodah · 30/03/2026 08:31

It’s not that much different from what he already does? Just one more day a week? Why would this be so terrible for you?

Livelaughlurgy · 30/03/2026 08:44

This sounds mad to me, but I'll concede I've no experience with blended families.

So Wednesday him, thursday you, friday/sat/sun him, Monday you, Tues/wed him, Friday/sat/sun/mon/ you.

2/1/3/1/2/5.

11 & 13
exactly my thoughts, it makes their week really broken up and I don’t see how they can be settled anywhere

I don’t know if it’s about the money or his view that they are “his” children (he talks about how he has rights , is an equal parent etc). We separated over 6 years ago & he has always wanted 50:50 but previously lived too far away and then couldn’t actually facilitate it due to his work pattern, so this is his latest attempt. The kids never wanted more time with him but apparently he has had “lots of chats” (my daughter’s comment last night) about it and now they are saying they are happy to go.

I’m interested to know why I was quoted and the reply deleted for breaking talk guidelines, but I guess I’ll never know….
