Child maintenance

Anyone have any advice on amount of maintenance? We’ve always had an agreement through the calculator on the child maintenance website but now his wage is jumping up I’m fed up of having money used against me it’s mentally draining. I don’t know how much it’ll be if we go through the system and just wondering if anyone has someone on 70k a year with one child to pay for, doesn’t have him overnight but sees him twice a week, thanks

CMS calculator for paying parent on 70k a year, 0 nights, and assuming that there are no other children living with dad, comes out at about £625 a month.

Yeah I was just seeing if anyone had advice on how shorter off I’ll be because the cms calculator I’ve learnt today isn’t accurate so just wanted to work out my options before

Absolutely correct, it’s just a ball park figure.

This was my understanding but I’ve also been told they go by the previous tax year and not the new one, I find it so confusing because people are saying the calculator is giving a lot more

The calculator is really just a rough guide, it’s not correct because there are too many factors it can’t predict- for example how much he’s paying into his pension. He could be paying a high % into pension which will then reduce the amount of maintenance you are owed.

If I was in your shoes, depending on how much you get currently & on what your current set up is for extras like school trips/uniform/presents etc, I’d weigh up what I could gain from going via CMS to decide if it’s worth it or not.

The calculator isn't accurate. I was told on the calculator £225 I get £120 a month! 🤣

What is he proposing?

Yeah I ideally don’t want to go through cms but the anxiety it causes when being manipulated with money is just horrendous, thankyou for the info

How much does he pay you currently? If it’s £500 or more I would be careful about rocking the boat because he could seek out the calculator himself and may not realise if he has his kids overnight on a regular basis it reduces what he pays

Do you want your son there on over nights?
