Hi, just wondered if anyone had any experience of this. My daughter's Dad has been told to pay £28 per month by CMS. On the day his first payment was due he paid £365. Does he have to continue paying £28 per month regardless?

I will call them next week, just wondered if anyone had experienced this.
Thanks.

I've no experience, but could it be "back pay"?

Elmeux · 07/09/2024 18:11

Off topic, but a pound a day is a fucking joke

AutumnLeeeeves · 07/09/2024 18:29

I think this would be counted as a voluntary overpayment which are not recognised by CMS against what's owing so he should still pay his measly £28 a month...

No idea.

But I'd be tempted to request the collection service so they take it each month from now anyway!

£28 - what a joke! And I say that as someone who's ex paid nothing but that felt less of a kick in the teeth.

My ex also pays this amount…for 2 children. Ridiculous.

Laszlomydarling · 07/09/2024 18:47

I know. It is ridiculous to claim this amount, but at least as and when he earns anything on paper, the case will already be open. Definitely not back pay. They only take back pay from when you open a case, which was late in May. Very frustrating as clearly he can afford so much more. It's like he thinks he can pay it once to 'get it out of the way' like paying annually for insurance. Such a sad transactional approach to supporting a child.

I also think as a voluntary over payment, he should still be paying the £28 per month.
