hi I'm trying to write an essay on dental care in the under 8's
am having trouble finding out info on what happens at the dental screening done in schools, does anyone know if its just a quick look then a note home to recomend parents go to a dentist, or do they do any work while there in the school?
if anyone who has a clue, thoughts etc would be appreciated
i have posted on other olaces as not sure where best to post

In our school it was quite a thorough look, but with just a mirror and a torch - and a letter home to parents if any work needed doing.

thank you, I'm having trouble finding out what is involved, just found info that the screening exists not what is involved. thats what i thought might happen, cant see how they'd do fillings etc in a school hall , but wanted to check before i write

They did a quick check with my son and sent a letter home saying he needed fillings...

Had discussed with our dentist and agreed that we should leave for the moment as the teeth are weak with no enamel on them when they were formed and we will be having them removed to make space in his mouth anyhow and they're not hurting him so no point doing anything till old enough to get them removed. So the letter home made me feel like I was a bad parent because my son urgently needed fillings and I hadn't done anything about it, when in fact he did not!

Might add our dentist is a private one as I can't get an NHS one, and he did say that an NHS dentist would probably have filled them by now given that they get paid for doing such work and once started it would be a never ending round of needing work on those teeth which would have to come out at some point anyhow. I got a second opinion from my mum too who is a retired dentist and she agreed.
