Healthy start card paid for whole shopping?!

So I completely forgot about the healthy start card until I found it at the bottom of a drawer, so it's built up over the past couple of years (roughly £200 on it). Annoyed at myself as I've been struggling with the price of food but anyway 🤣

Scanned the card expecting to get a fiver or so knocked off and it paid for the entire 80 odd quids worth?! That isn't right is it?! Obviously not complaining but I thought it was for milk and fruit and veg only...

I found mine the other day too but has about £80 on- I always wondered if it would accept a whole food shop 😂

I’ve heard now that it’s a card it pays for everything not just fruit and veg, I’ve heard a few it happened to. Shame it was tokens when I use to get them and the cashier use to riffle through my shopping and add it all up to make sure it wasn’t a penny over the value 😂

Was it Iceland? My friend always used to take her vouchers there as they let her use them on anything.

Interesting! What's to stop people taking the mick and buying a load of booze with it?!

I think people do, I heard someone buying nappies with them obviously an essential but not fruit or veg. In my Tesco they had the self check out so the paper vouchers wouldn’t go through you had to call them over to authorise it and they would check through your shopping, it’s funny now it’s completely different and can use them on anything!

I am sure an cashier would flag up alcohol, I don't think it matters really as long as people are buying food/nappies/wipes etc for their child. Tbh nappies and pasta are more essential than carrots and apples.

So can you buy pretty much anything with the healthy start card? I’ve got mine and have been using it for just fruit and veg :)

I always used mine for general shopping. I assume if you tried to pay for alcohol or tobacco then it would flag up on the till.
