Hi I'm a single dad of a 11 year old daughter, her mum isn't really in the picture.
She has started to express that she would like to buy some makeup, I don't really know where to start.
I have watched some YouTube video on how to apply it but have no idea what I would need to buy, any advice please?
She has blonde hair and fair skin if that helps.

11?

No make up here beyond tinted lip balm

I've a 12 year old I let her look at YouTube and use her own money for makeup in savers and Superdrug for use at home!

Give her a budget and turn it into a nice outing to Superdrug or a big Boots. Let her choose from the ranges- be prepared to stand around A LOT saying Mmm yes, mmm nice etc.
At her age I'd try and stick to sheer colours, nudes and very neutral 'colours,- tinted lip balm, close to natural lip colour. Sheer pink blush- could be powder or a stick. Maybe fair/ pale brown eyebrow pencil- as close to her natural colour as possible. Or just a clear eyebrow gel.
I would steer away from any foundation, tinted moisturiser or BB cream- ie anything that covers the entire skin- at that age. Not needed- and then will need lotions and potions to clean off properly- all of which may just irritate her skin.
Just some ideas. Let her play/ experiment. Tell her she looks lovely. But she also looks lovely without. But more importantly tell her she's great- funny/ clever/kind/ strong/ valued and valuable!!!

Lip gloss
Eye shadow
Mascara

Start here

Maybe Superdrug or sainsburys own brands. Good luck ☺️

I was in Superdrug and a mother took her daughter in and asked the assistant for help over what to get. They looked at Revolution because it's quite cheap. That might be a good way to start. Also profusion, probably you'd have to buy online, do full face palettes for £15. If there are different colours, just go for light or light/medium.

11 year old is too young for make up

familyissues12345 · 02/03/2023 13:51

Elf make up brand are pretty good for basic, cheap make up. Eyeshadow palettes aren't too heavily pigmented, so shouldn't look like she's got much on.

As others have said, I would definitely discourage anything that covers her skin - foundation etc, as there's just no need and I don't think it's great for blocking pores etc. I probably wouldn't see any harm in a little eyeshadow, blusher, tinted gloss/lip balm

Good luck!

Go to a high street store that sells make up - agree Boots would be good - and ask for advice from the sales people for beginners' products.

I would agree that 11 is too young for make up, aprt form the odd bit of lip gloss or tinted lip balm for dress up/special occassions.

BUT if you are happy and she is keen, I would suggest getting a 'makeover' at one of the beauty counters. If you take her to a Body Shop, the assistants there will happily show her a few different prouducts and put them on her for so she can see what to do. I think e.g. Boots No 7 or benefit in a Boots would do this too.

At 11 she really is a bit young. If anything, lip balm and mascara. But it’s never too young to teach her about good skincare and that doesn’t have to mean expensive. You could steer her away from the icky “Beauty Focus” and more into the “Health & Hygiene” focus by setting her up with an age-appropriate skincare routine, consisting of a gentle cleanser and moisturiser (Cerave, Neutrogena Hydro Boost or something similar) a really good Sunscreen (I’m an absolute zealot about this), some gorgeous perfume and body lotion and some deodorant. (Hormones generally kick in around this time, if they haven’t already, so be prepared for all of that as well.) Another idea might be a nice hairdryer (Revlon One Step Round Dryer) and some Heat Protectant and some lovely Shampoo and Conditioner. *Just throwing ideas at you here. I have two teenage daughters.

Btw, I have no idea why part of my previous post was in bold. I didn’t mean to yell at you.

I have acknowledged all responses and am very grateful, I am unsure how to individually like a response

Also start to encourage a healthy clean skin routine with a gentle cleansing wash and a light youth moisturiser. Agree with nude glosses, a mascara and some light blush if she's keen and you're happy.
