Is it easy to come off UC

Don't want to go into much detail but after splitting up with my DC dad I had to start claiming benefits.
I've started working 2 days a week since as she's only 20 months and currently in a process of developing my own freelancing business which I am hoping will become my full time job this year. My goals is to gradually come off UC ASAP as I am healthy and capable to work and provide to my daughter and myself.
I've been feeling awful that I'm calming as I imagine there's people who physically can't work.
I guess my question is once I start earning from my freelancing do I have to let them know my earning and they will start reducing my payment until I'm not entitled to anything?
Sorry if this sounds like a stupid question but Grin

Yes that's how it works, it gets tapered so the more you earn the less UC you will get so once earning over a certain amount you will get 0.

I think you need to change your thinking though, UC is there to support people when they need it which is exactly why you're claiming. It isn't a bad thing or just for people who physically can't work.

Good luck with your business

Yes I guess I do need to work on changing my thinking about it all. I've just always seen myself as this little miss independent and I've been very hard on myself. Thank you for your kindness!

Funny - when I see you stressing about claiming it seems ridiculous, that's what it's there for. But I feel exactly the same guilt myself.
Do a spreadsheet - because if you're getting council tax help then that can go down in big chunks very quickly. At least it does in my LA so there was a point where by working I suddenly had less than if I wasn't until my income reached a certain point. And paying for prescriptions and dentist again needs factoring in.
