If you're a single parent, how do you work throughout the summer holidays? I start my training on Tuesday and it's just dawned on me that it's the 6 weeks holidays in 2 weeks and if it's even possible for me to go for this job?

Father is not involved and both my parents work full time jobs so they can't have him. No friends to have him either.

I wasn't a single parent but my DH used to be military and so I parented alone for long periods.

How old is your DC?

Are there any local holiday clubs?

SmellyWellyWoo · 02/07/2022 20:14

I had to be very organised! I would advise planning well in advance. Mix of my own annual leave, holiday clubs and family help.

How okd?
Holuday nanny booked for the 6 weeks
Student if older dc
Childminder
Holiday clubs start sge 5 or so

But you need to hurry to book

Tgese wefjs will likely be the most expensive

I was the same and just put DD in holiday clubs where necessary.

It's no help to you for this summer, but I used to start the summer holiday spreadsheet in January and, whenever anyone suggested having DD for a day or two, would say "great! How about July 14-15?" and then remind them a few weeks before the date. Then I would take all the leftover days as holiday myself, maybe 10 in total, to fit around other people, rather than blocks of a week or two for my own time with DD.

Summer clubs, I don’t work though because my dd has a disability and I’m a lone parent (she isn’t able to attend child care) but I imagine most people use clubs etc

Breakfast club in school time and I finish in time to do school run collection myself.

Holiday times I use a play scheme that opens from 07.30am.

Wrap around care. Childminder covered school holidays too. But she retired in the pandemic. Now a mixture of working from home. Kids are old enough. And summer activity days. And annual leave. You make it work

This is my first job. Through the week they've put me in school hours and the weekends (when my parents can watch my son) and then through the summer holidays I've found a holiday club, £368 but it's worth it knowing I'll still be able to work. Thankyou everybody. :)
