im currently on the old system of tax credit and child tax credit and get a tiny bit of hb to top up my rent , currently on maternity leave from my 26 hour a week job. my mum loves alone and hates it. Is being made redundant but shy of 3 years from her pension . She wants to purchase somewhere we can live together so she is not alone and I can still work and cover the bills , she will have no income , can I still claim help from either universal credits or stay on the old system? As I will still need to support 4 children only difference is I wont have to pay rent ? Possibly a small mortgage if we would need to borrow ? Does anyone know if this is something we can do , dont want to take the plunge to find im.supporting 6 of us on my measly less then a grand wage. TIA

Well that is a monumental waste of everybody's time.

Yes she has worked 45 years and she really has had enough now, she does a lot for charity as well as helping me out a lot with the children, she isnt work shy but at 63 and oesteo arthritis I think she has just about had enough , we just wanted to find a way to make it work that we all live together instead.of.paying bills etc on.2 separate homes . She will have about 200 a month to use on train or bus etc until she can claim her state pension , she said if she needs to get a job in tesco or something she will, but she has worked full time her whole life , and i feel I owe it to her to give her a bit of a break now

How much redundancy money did your mum receive, where is the money coming from for a cash purchase of a bigger house.

If she's going to be the main carer for the children, you may be able to claim on this basis.

I think your mum might be able to claim new style ESA at least at first. Depends on a lot of things. This page might be useful. www.understandinguniversalcredit.gov.uk/employment-and-benefits-support/redundancy/

I think it sounds like a good plan tbh. As long as you get on of course!

I would be very cautious of her charging you rent and you trying to get benefits to pay that, the rules are complicated.

I havent actually said I want to claim anything for rent as I wont need to. We will be moving further afield to afford a larger property

I want to know if anyone can help me regarding this.
We live with parents. But do own a property which we are renting to council and getting rent..
but we got outstanding on that property about 100 grand and we are paying mortgage.
Will we be eligible for universal credits .
