is it normal to feel tired all the time? I just want to hear from other single parents to see if this is normal or I need to speak to the dr, I’m tired all the time like literally exhausted, I don’t know if it’s just that I’m a single parent to 4 and never get a break, literally never (they don’t go to their dads) or if it’s something more?? Is it normal to feel tired all the time?

Single parent of 3, I’m exhausted

Givemeabreak88 · 01/10/2020 19:50

So it sounds normal then?? I didn’t want to sound stupid calling the doctors

I think it’s fairly normal, but it might be worth a visit to your gp.
Do you take any supplements? Were you anemic in pregnancy or are you veggie?
Iron might be an idea, I’m supposed to take it, but I’m a bit crap Grin

Hi @Givemeabreak88

Yes! I have 3 boys 2 are at uni but at home, and a 9 year old, and I am exhausted all the time too. My saving grace is the older lads take the little monster out for me to give me a break as he is home schooled, never sleeps and is the devil in carnet, but bloody funny with it!

Grab a coffee as soon as the kids are in bed and just rest.

Yes I am vegetarian, I did wonder about the iron thing as I remember having to take it in pregnancy, but it’s hard to know if it’s normal or not, that’s why I was just wondering if it’s just part of being a single parent, but don’t know many people in the same situation. my youngest isn’t sleeping much at night As well which doesn’t help!

Actually good point, get your bloods checked just to make sure your not Anaemic?

I think it's pretty normal, but that doesn't mean it's ok for you or sustainable. I'm alone with three, and even with fewer than you it's pretty exhausting.

Do you look after yourself at all? I'm trying to exercise at least once or twice a week and to take a multivitamin and think it helps a bit. Also, are they of an age to help more, or to stay with family or others? If you end up too exhausted, the whole unit will collapse, and in my experience, when things got really hard and I became seriously ill I was surprised by how many people actually stepped up to help, when in the past I never wanted to show vulnerability or accept support. Hope you can find some for you.

If you can do this, even for a week or so - and go to bed early, even if it's dull and means the bed go unchanged for another week running - then you'll have a better idea whether there's an underlying medical issue to deal with.

And don't worry about sounding silly, the doctors are there to help your health and fatigue can absolutely be a symptom of other things. It's worth trying to rest first to save everyone some time in case it is that, but guarantee they've heard MUCH sillier things than anything you could say. My sister's a nurse and some of the stories she and her colleagues have are mind-boggling.Grin
