I'm telling my husband tomorrow l want us to separate. Can anyone tell me if I receive universal credit do l still get my child benefit on top of that or is it included in the universal credit?

I can't offer much advice about when you're claiming as a lone parent but I claim both universal credit and child benefit. When I get my payments they are separate transactions made on different dates. I'm assuming that it'll be the same for you.

Hope you are ok. Child benefit is a totally separate benefit and is paid as such to the main carer for the children . It does not get paid through universal credit and will only get taken into account for universal credit purposes if the benefit cap is applied to a universal credit claim.

You can go on the website and get a calculation to see if you'd qualify. It depends if you're working, how many dc you have, if they have additional needs etc. I hope things work out for you

Sorry, I read your first post wrong..... cb is completely separate so if you qualify for uc it would be as well as cb

Hi, I'm a single parent to one daughter and rely solely on UC as lost job due to Covid.

UC is made up of 3 elements.
Standard - this is what you as the adult will get, around £409 a month
Housing - any payment toward your rent. If you're in social housing they pay 100% of rent minus a percentage for any spare bedroom you have. Eg I have a 3 bed, they pay only for two of those rooms so I have to make up about £60 a month.
Child - how much you'll get to support each child. For my one child it's £280 a month.

CB is totally seperate and is about £20 a week for first child, £13 for second. Etc. (These figures may have changed recently tho, I've not checked.)

The benefit cap is applied sometimes as only a certain amount can be received in benefits .It takes into account the total amount of certain benefits, which is where child benefit would get included .It does not get applied if you are working and earn more than £604 per month after tax and NI.There is also a grace period of 9 months depending on recent earnings.As previous poster's have suggested an online benefit calculator will give you a good idea of your entitlement .Try 'entitled to' or gov.uk .Turn2us is also a good site to help with other support too as is CAB.

So kind of u to ask thank u. well i told him and not surprisingly he didn't take it well, refusing to leave and wants to tell the boys immediately even tho i've nicely asked him not to. he was horrible but fully expected him to be.
