Where will I stay?

I haven't saw my daughter since lockdown began. She is just a baby and there is 4 hours between where we live so visiting makes it hard as either I drive 4 hours there and 4 hours back in the one day or don't go at all as there is no hotels or anything open for me to stay in overnight. Her mum says I should have at least done the 4 hour drive there and 4 hour drive back at Least once or twice during all of this to see her but my family have been telling me not to go as that drive in one day is too long. Would you take my approach or my child's mother? Or any other approach?

Yes you drive it in a day. My parents have driven through the night for me even as an adult. That's what parents that care do

Can you buy a cheapish 2nd hand camper van?

I see an awful lot of people haven't done two four-hour trips in a day solo here. Don't minimise it, it's tiring and dangerous when you're not practiced at it.

Yes I have, plenty. Go to a horse show and countless competitors have travelled that far in a heavy vehicle, spent the entire day physically competing then drive home again. Surely no healthy adult would be exhausted by an occasion 2x 4 hour drive in a standard car?!

How do you infer this? I've done this, including with a 3 month old screaming the entire time. Yes its tiring. But taking a blanket and pillow allows for sleeping and resting. Taking food with a chill box/block. It's really not that difficult.

I do similar drives quite frequently. It's fine. And fir contact with a child, absolutely worth it.

Of course should have done it. Get up early and be there by 12.30pm, spend some time with the baby, drive somewhere to get a takeaway meal, then drive home with time to spare in case you need to stop at services for a rest.
I've done 3.5 hours each way in a day many times when collecting my DS from his grandparents. Stop for lunch and a walk, then head home. It's fine.
