Forgetfulness

Hello! First post so please be gentle.... my son is 12 and he's an awesome kid most of the time but his memory is so bad it's beginning to affect everything. He can't seem to remember the simplest instructions and during lockdown as a single mom working full time from home it's really starting to frustrate and anger me. Even daft things like "if you're going upstairs would you bring down my charger" are forgotten as soon as he's out of sight and anything more complex I just don't even bother with anymore. I have tried to make him focus but having time away from electricals, writing things down, asking him to repeat back to me and all to no avail. Last week I found myself shouting at him constantly to the both where we were both really upset and that is not the way I parent. I just wondered if anyone else has been through anything like this and is able to either tell me it's hormonal and he will get past it or give me some ideas how to help him. He was quite bad when I was at work with forgetting his key, his PE kit, his homework but he was trying and I was finding it was working, but when I I look back at it now is it because I handed him everything before he left the house and continually reiterated what he needed to do all the way to school? He's so bright and so awesome I just need some help to get over this before lockdown is over so we can go back to being happy and not grumpy with each other. Thanks

Mine are the same so sorry no help just that you are not alone, they don’t listen to anything and it has to be repeated constantly

I remember I read an article about attention deficit that sounds very similar in terms of lack of attention (not hyperactivity, just attention deficit) in young people. Also this kind of forgetfulness can be a manifestation of stress or lack of iron (personal experience) so maybe once this madness passes I would check with gp in case it’s more to it.
