ExH furloughed and will be stopping CM payments.. however

ExH pays £300 pm for both kids, as an informal arrangement, not through the CSA.

He just informed me that because he's been temporarily laid off work due to CV, he won't be paying me CM until he's working again.

However, our divorce was only finalized last year. I bought him out of the family home, and he pocketed a tidy sum of £300k. He now lives in a rented house with his girlfriend, so despite buying a fancy mid-life crisis car Hmm and paying off some debts he still has plenty of cash in the bank.

Does the CSA take this into consideration? If so, what are my options? My own employer is threatening a 20% pay cut and with the lack of CM, I don't know how I'll make ends meet.

Thanks

Can you contact him, and see if he can make a smaller contribution? If not go down CSA route.

If he’s been furloughed he should still be getting 80% of his salary anyway!

HollowTalk · 30/03/2020 17:00

Every single day I see another example of a really bad father on here. It's so depressing.

I would write him a message saying, "You have £300K in the bank. You have 80% of your salary. You are showing your true colours here. I am going to write to the CSA tonight - if I don't hear from you about reinstating the payments then my letter will be in the post first thing tomorrow morning."

Tell him you understand the situation. You will expect 80% (£240) or you will go to the csa(or whatever it is called.)

Thanks for your replies. When I said he's been furloughed, I didn't realise that this meant you were still paid. He's not being paid -rather, he's been laid off until he's needed again. So he's saying he has no income coming in.

I'll have no hesitation in going to the CSA about this, but my concern is that the CSA will say if he has no income, he doesn't have to pay, regardless of how much capital he has stashed away. I've tried to find answers to this on the CSA website and can only find horror stories of men with £1m++ property portfolios who manage to evade paying child support!

Sadly you are right. My understanding is that CSA payments are based on earned income. Or money that is taxable. And traceable.

So those you are self employed. Have medical pensions or extensive savings. Will not have to make a payment.

I have equally selfish NRP. Who I haven't seen a penny from in nearly two years now. Bit always seems to have very expensive clothes when he turns up. 🤷‍♀️

nellythenarwhal · 30/03/2020 23:07

The CSA won't care about the 300k but if he gets the furlough payment then they would consider that income.

HollowTalk · 30/03/2020 23:11

Are you sure his company won't be claiming 80% of his wages for him?

Maxhiggins · 31/03/2020 08:53

You don't know that he still has the £300k in the bank or what his out goings are. I would maybe approach more gently and ask what is an opotion

Hazelnutlatteplease · 31/03/2020 08:56

Furloughed is to avoid you getting laid off. You still get 80% of your income paid through your company

Send the kids there for the rest of lockdown?
