Hi All,

I'm separated and the mother has recommended the following feed schedule for our child. He may already be a little overweight and this seems like a lot...Does this look like a reasonable amount for one days food?

12pm food
3pm milk
6pm food
9pm food

12am milk
3am milk
6am milk
9am breakfast

I have a 10 month old so I could be wrong but it seems like a lot of milk! What are the portion sizes?

marshmellowed · 15/11/2019 18:05

My ds just turned 22 m he doesn’t eat that well but looking at your schedule I think it depends on what exactly the food is ?
The 9 pm food is probably better replaced by milk tbh and then he may sleep through the 12am feed

marshmellowed · 15/11/2019 18:05

Don’t worry too much about his weight either just make sure you give healthy options and get him to run around and play

A toddler that age rarely needs all that milk over night - I'm guessing they are fed back to sleep several times a night, and that's why they're having milk.

But most toddlers eat little and often, so her expecting you to feed him every three hours he's awake, is pretty much standard for that age.

As for the weight, if you're worried, you can always weigh him and look online for average weights etc. Do remember that a lot of toddlers grow "out" before growing "up". So he might look a bit chubby, but be due a growth spurt.

Wow thats an awful lot of milk id say milk in morn and at night before bed, 3 meals a day with snacks in between. Why does he have so much milk??

dementedpixie · 15/11/2019 19:22

He doesn't need any of the milk through the night. At that age it would be:
Milk maybe twice a day am and PM
Breakfast, lunch, dinner
Maybe a couple of snacks

Significantudder · 15/11/2019 19:22

My 17 month old has milk with breakfast and before bed and has done since 12 months. She’s a good eater though. Even if they’re not that is an awful lot of milk!

Elbeagle · 15/11/2019 19:23

Is there any particular reason he needs overnight milk feeds at his age?
My 10 month old has...
6am milk
7.30am breakfast
10am small snack
12pm lunch
2.30am milk
5pm dinner
7pm milk

My nearly 17 month old has 3meals, 1-2 snacks and one milk before bed.... that's a late last food aswell, what's the bedtime routine like? My ds is asleep usually by 7

FrancesFlute · 15/11/2019 20:30

That is a lot of milk. Is he eating full meals also? I have a 22 month old.

7am - cup of cow's milk and breakfast
10am - snack and water
12pm - lunch
3pm - snack and cup of cow's milk
5pm - dinner
7pm - cup of milk

Nothing overnight.

Rubyroost · 15/11/2019 20:33

My 22 month has 9. 30 am milk, 10. 30 am porridge with milk, 2 pm lunch with yoghurt and sometimes cheeae 8.30pm dinner with fruit. I try and get plenty of dairy in as hes not massively keen on milk

Thesearmsofmine · 15/11/2019 20:38

What type of milk is it? Is he breastfeeding or is it formula/cows milk in a bottle/cup?

At that age mine had
8am Breakfast with a cup of milk
12ish Lunch with water
3pm Mid afternoon snack
6pm Dinner and a cup of milk

Water available to drink during the day.

MuchTooTired · 15/11/2019 20:49

My DTs are 21 months, and although my ds loves his food and was previously off of the chart for his age (he’s back to 91st centile now) I think he’d struggle to keep up with that amount!

We do:

8am Breakfast with cup of cows milk
1pm Lunch
3pm Snack
6pm Dinner
7pm Bed

Nothing overnight unless poorly, in which case water.

And that’s kind of it. HV told me to cut down on the milk when my son went off the charts - not to lose weight, but to maintain it until his age caught up with him. They drink water during the day, and the occasional very weak squash.
