Stupidly scared I’ll never have another child

This is going to sound utterly stupid but I have to get it off my chest.
I’m 18 years old and have one ds and although I am in no position whatsoever to have another right now as I’m in college, renting ( is ideally like to own a house in the future before considering more children), have no car etc etc, I have an overwhelming fear that I’ll never find someone to give ds a sibling in a few years.

I understand that quite a lot of people don’t even meet their dh until their 20’s,30’s etc but my time is consumed by looking up “large age gaps” and “coping with accepting only having one child” threads on mumsnet🤣.

Do any other single mothers of one have this fear and how do you cope with it!?

You are younger than my DD's stop worrying. Yes you are likely to have a larger age gap but you need to relax, enjoy life and bring up your dc the best you can. Plenty of time for mr right! Now me, I'm worried but I'm old compared to you

I've known families with large age gaps and it's been just fine. Don't let it consume you.

I used to get sad but now I just get on with it. My DS recently turned 5 and its been me and him for most of his life. I am 33.
I would love a sibling for him but if it doesn't happen then I know what im experiencing with him is perfect enough. I believe I am very lucky to have him, which I why I am content that if I am on my own longterm and it is just me and him then that's OK.

I meet alot of people through my job and its very reassuring to hear some of the age gaps. In fact I tend to hear more gaps of 5 to 10 years between kids than earlier. The parents always say how wonderful it is because their eldest is more independent of them and helps out rather than needs their all their time too.

You need to stop overthinking. You are young, you have your whole life. Don't focus on what ifs. Focus on what you have now

I was going to sympathise but you’re 18! You have your entire life ahead of you to worry about things like this. I don’t mean to sound patronising, but I’m in my 30’s with one dd and the panic I feel at getting closer to being too old to conceive is horrendous.

Age gaps don’t mean anything. Kids either like each other or they don’t, it doesn’t depend on how old they are.

Thank you all so much! I was afraid of harsh criticism because of my age as it may be sensitive to older people where it’s an actual problem whereas in my case it’s clearly just overthinking and letting it consume me. So thank you all for being kind and understanding Smile it has honestly helped more than I thought to just get it off my chest and get some direct feedback!
