Better off than on benefits? Currently on income Support but have a job interview coming up. Really want to get back into work but worried I'll be worse off can anyone give me some advice?

Yes defintley. You will get help towards official childcare, some help towards rent if its social housing, though im not sure how it works if you have a mortgage. Go to entiledto.co.uk and it will work it out for you. You can input different scenarios to see which one makes you better off :)

thanks for the advice I'll go have a look. Yes it's social housing. That's my main worry the rent and council tax. I suffer from anxiety and depression I'm hoping getting back out in the world will help that because I tend to isolate myself which doesn't help matters. Does anyone know if I get the job and can't cope would I be able to go back on income Support or would it be universal credit because it would be a new claim? Or would I not be able to claim anything if I'd quit the job?

Try the calculator online to make sure as some times you aren’t actually better off working. 9/10 you will be better off. You’ll have to pay more towards rent and council tax yes but youll also gain working tax credits and help with childcare. If you quit your job without a new one lined up regardless of the reason you will get a benefit sanction (ban from claiming) so make sure you find the right job for you and stick at it. You’re entitled to work a few hours a week without it affecting your benefits too much so that will be a good way to ease into work slowly plus some volunteering.
