Me and my ex are attending mediation. I have my first meeting tomorrow.
I’m just wondering if it went to court what is he likely to be granted ?
I really don’t think he will agree to a word I say in mediation
DD is 8 weeks old
He hasn’t consistently been around, often won’t see her for a week- 10 days which is a long time in her life. Hasn’t attended any doctors appointments, didn’t attend first injections, has sent me so much verbal abuse. Bare in mind this is because I said he is welcome to visit her at home get to know her do her bath/ bed routine then weekends he can have her sat & sun 9-12. He said this is ridiculous he doesn’t have to prove he can father her. All she knows is me. I want her to have a relationship with him I’m just wondering what would typically be offered ? I feel like she’s so little and I couldn’t bare him to get large blocks of time I’d rather it be consistent smaller amounts like I’ve offered

Small regular amounts are entirely appropriate for a small baby like your DD with an agreement to review at various points as she gets older. A court is unlikely to order overnights until 12mo.

Someone more knowledgeable will be along shortly. But from previous posts like this involving young babies it’s usually little and often and certainly no overnights at first.
Are you breastfeeding?

Expressodaily · 08/01/2019 17:48

I’m not no- I was doing combination feeding and have JUST stopped which I’m now doubting my decision.
My concern is he keeps telling me he will get ‘ loads ‘ more than I’ve offered, but I think for a child her age Saturday and Sunday morning is a lot, and to visit 2 nights a week

I would be restarting bf in your position...

mama1980 · 09/01/2019 11:46

Honestly in your position I would restart breast feeding.
Little and often is definitely best and a court goes from there.
He is unlikely to be granted overnights until she is 12 months but things like travel distance, feeding etc will be taken into consideration.
You sound very reasonable so I'm sure the court will see that.

justilou1 · 09/01/2019 11:46

Definitely re-start bf and tell them you never stopped.

Expressodaily · 09/01/2019 11:58

I’ve had my post natal check and told them I had stopped. I don’t particularly want to breastfeed could I tell them I am combination feeding still or would this not suffice ?
I’m fine with him seeing her little and often if it’s consistent would they grant more than this if she isn’t breastfed ? Like all days?

Your offer of frequent visits sounds reasonable to me, but I agree with others - keep breastfeeding if you can (I know it's not that easy sometimes).

mama1980 · 09/01/2019 12:16

Honestly as I said you sound very reasonable facilitating contact but I would restart bfeeding, tell them you've changed your mind if you can.

MissMalice · 09/01/2019 12:43

You do not have to breastfeed. She’s 8 weeks old. Breastfeeding or not is totally irrelevant at this stage. Little and often is what a court would order at this stage.
