Returning to full time study

Does anyone have experience of quitting paid employment and returning to full time studying?
I've been employed as a civil servant for over 20 years. It's always been my dream to train as a paramedic. I've the required qualifications for the full time degree course. What I'm unsure of is what if any financial assistance I may be entitled to. I can't seem to find information anywhere.
Has anyone in my shoes done this. Am I crazy to consider it?

Might be wrong but I thought if you quit your job to essentially claim benefits you couldn't claim anything for 16 weeks?

Angels, I can't find anything definitive for these circumstances, and I'm not sure who/where to go to try and access accurate information. Thanks for the reply though.

I did it. I get a full maintenance loan and a grant. Is it your first degree? The figures should be on the student finance site. Good luck

Donajimena. Yes this would be my first degree. I'll try the student finance page thank you. Any advice you can give would be welcomed. I've 2 children primary age, live in shared ownership housing, no savings, but want to secure a better future for all of us.
