Because this is my first day, and im BORED.
Ive had a bath, Ive been to tescos, I even went stawberry picking. Ive cleaned the front room floor on my hands and knees and ive sat on MN for, oh a few hours.

squidette · 17/06/2007 15:21

charliecat - one thing that works really well for me is that i dont ever ever ever tell my ex what i do when the children are with him. Likewise, i dont want to know what his wife and daughter do!
Its is none of his business why you went strawberry picking - even if you get on really well. This is YOUR time now

I love going to the cinema on my own, its a real adventure when i do go (which is not often though). I even take sunggly socks and a small range of snack foods

mojosmum · 17/06/2007 15:21

good on you ladies i feel self consues going out on my own but why should we if i had a bike id be going for a ride to but would have to take dd

SchroedingersCat · 17/06/2007 15:23

SchroedingersCat · 17/06/2007 15:24

oh sorry. I did not read properly. I thought it was generic 'daddy', not 'x' daddy!

Sorreeeeeeeeeee

j20baby · 17/06/2007 15:25

i used to go out out for nights out. now i sit and eat chocolate without being nagged for a bit! decorate, go shopping, come on mn, read, wait for dd to come home

allgonebellyup · 17/06/2007 15:26

How come i am the only one here who loves her sundays away from the dc?
Obviously i miss them especially if they stay away overnight and their little beds are empty..
but i do love having the time to go window shopping, reading, take long baths, go to the pub with a friend or two, or study (which funnily enough i never get round to doing..)

is there something wrong with me? (me and dh only split 3mths ago but dd has been seeing her dad (ex dp) for 4yrs)

j20baby · 17/06/2007 15:28

allgone-nope, me too! in fact when i drop dd off on a sat, i breathe a deep sigh of relief to get some me time!

charliecat · 17/06/2007 15:44

In the early days I used to mope around counting the minutes til they came home, I'd phone friends who were suppoertive & very very understanding. I used to hate it, now I get on with my life, if I'm not working I either make plans to meet up with friends, I go shopping,I do nice things with my chap, I lounge in bed etc, etc. I do miss them but I also enjoy my child free time.

macdoodle · 17/06/2007 15:47

well done charlie cat more for ignoring mobile than anything else - it does get better I love my me time miss DD but love having some free time

neva · 17/06/2007 16:55

Went to a charity barbecue party, dds would have loved it, such a shame they couldn't come, busied myself by helping out...doing as bit of voluntary work is a good way of spending time. Some weekends I do two weeks' worth of cleaning and ironing in one go, so I don't have to bother with the heavy stuff while girls around. Have tried going to exhibitions, but find it a bit lonely.

Kaloo20 · 17/06/2007 17:36

I made myself go cycling and looked at some houses I had spotted on the 'net last night. I made myself cycle hard until I was hot and sweaty, knowing the exercise would be good for me. I popped into Tesco for the sunday papers not caring what I looked like.
I returned home 90 minutes later and made the decision to join a gym and get a hot trainer every other Sunday ...

Will spend this evening re-jigging my budget to see if I can afford to do this

Feel better now.
Looking forwards to children returning home in just over 1 hour

mistressmiggins · 17/06/2007 19:21

the first few times/months are hard cos a) you miss them & b) they are with your ex which either makes one feel or

then you begin to relish your time off to recharge cos if you are a single parent, you do need time to yourself

maybe try to forward plan more - I bet that some of your friends with children & husbands would be up for a game of squash or a coffee without children as it gives them a break too
yes to window shopping without children "can we go" & "Im bored"
yes to Costa cafe ditto

I do boring things like DIY - needs to be done & quicker without children

agree with whoever said dont ask what kids have done unless they tell you all about it & never tell ex what you've been up to - none of his business but probably annoys the hell out of him.

my ex rang me last weekend while they were in my house (another story) and asked "should I feed the kids as they are hungry"
he then asked what he could cook as the potatoes looked a bit manky

my DS (5) told him what to cook as I just politely told him to have a look in the freezer & then said I had to go....

MrsWho · 17/06/2007 19:34

I MN, shop, half heartedly clean then end up sitting on MN or watching DVDs, Gym, pictures, gardening, riding

CC- why don't you get a shower on your own?don't you leave them for 10mins to play?

charliecat · 17/06/2007 19:44

Oh yes I do MrsWho, but he was suggesting leaving them with his landlady while he showered. Not on in my opinion.
He will need to get in the habit of showering BEFORE he collects them, or going without. Not vanishing into the shower leaving them with a strange woman.

MrsWho · 17/06/2007 19:50

Ah I see, can't he leave them to play? Or would that be multi tasking?

charliecat · 17/06/2007 19:52

He could, but hes got a room in a womans house. I just didnt want them being left with her if she was in.

OP posts:
MrsWho · 17/06/2007 19:59

Ah i see, I wasthinking he was in a flat and leaving them with a nieghbour

Pinkchampagne · 18/06/2007 21:57

I try to tackle some housework & ironing, have a nice long bath, watch TV without it being taken over, play some music & talk on here!

Last night I went round to see a friend for wine & a catch up, while the boys were with their dad.

aimeesmummy · 18/06/2007 22:22

I find I get stressed every weekend (well, all the time at the moment actually!) either when she's with me or with her Dad. When she's with me, I feel guilty cos I don't organise lots of interesting things to do with her or don't know lots of other Mums (single or otherwise) to meet up with - and when I don't have her, I panic because I realise how tits-up my life currently is and I have nothing much planned.
I was about to say that I haven't yet got the courage to go out and do stuff on my own but I actually went into a pub on Saturday night ON MY OWN!!! Oh yes I did! But, there's a catch...! One of the guys at work drums in a band and his band were playing so I latched onto his gf and nursed a Budweiser for an hour and boogied a bit. Came away with a mixture of thoughts - my usual one of everyone has a life except me mixed with a oh-sod-it, if I've got to do stuff on my own, I've got to grit my teeth and just do it.

NuttyMuffins · 18/06/2007 22:24

Well xp doesn't have the kids, but if he did then I would...

Watch a film
Have a nice bath
Go shopping if i had money
Visit friend
Sleep
Have sex (if i had anyone to have it with that is)

charliecat · 19/06/2007 12:37
