Do you make your children go and see their dad if they don't want to?

my nieces, 8 + 6 where the same with their dad, they are fine most of the time now, my sister nearly stopped them going, but didnt. sorry cant be much help.

cant really help except to tell you how it is from the other side. My DSD stays every weekend and is fine when here. BUT her mum does tell us that she will not send DSD (6) if she doesnt want to come. APPARENTLY DSD says she doesnt want to come when she is with her mum BUT when she is with us she says she doesnt want to go home. I really dont think 6 is old enough to decide things like this and unless you suspect something more sinister you really have to support her going to her dads.

IS the gf a nightmare then?

How about she doesnt stop over but sees him anyway. Perhaps it is that which she finds hard and slowing it down a little might then help.

6 year olds are mature enough to know what they do or dont want, I think that if she is happy to be there once she is there then leave the arrangements as they are, if it was the case of her going there and getting upset then have a re-think, just dont force her which I dont think you would do anyway

I have the same problem with my ds, he is 7. He says that he doesnt want to see his dad and refuses to speak to him on the phone. When a visit has been organised my ds will say that he isnt going and i dont false the issue, but when the time comes he is happy that he has seen his dad. I think that my ds feels stuck in the middle of both of us. He is scared that if he has contact with his dad that i will be upset with him.(of course im not) Do you think that because you had problems with his gf that your dd thinks that is was her fault and that it then upset her if she visits her dad in case it causes more problems?

it is horrid, my dd age 4 cries about going to her dad's. but he says she is fine when there, but she constantly asks, who's picking me up from nursery today , i pick up 4 out of 5 him 1 out of 5,

and i guess i have put it down to her age, and not really understandingm he has now asked for her for weekend, when he marries in augast, but i think it is to much as dd only used to one afternoon a week with him,

ainsmum, was it you who had the thread, and she had gone to some function, and the gf's family were making her upset. I remember that thread, awful.

I am in the same boat.I keep sending her to his, (see post about crap dad and holiday plans) and she seems t have a good time, but would just rather stay home with mummy.

it is a trial, and we do what we can.

hugz to you
