Have just split with my partner. We have a 5 week old baby and I had to leave due to violence. I never thought this would happen. I have gone from one week being in a happy relationship with a beautiful baby, owning my own home with plenty of money to living with my parents and I have £10 in my bank account. (He has moved all money from joint account that I have no access to into an account in his own name).

Now in the beginning stages of what could be an extremely expensive legal custody battle.

Please can someone just tell me that things will get better, and one day this won’t seem the end of the world?

It's not great but it could be much worse - you and the baby could still be at risk.

If you bought the house together you have an ownership interest in it, and moving money out of a joint account to deny you access to it will all be taken into account.

Things will get better, but I suggest you find a good solicitor immediately.

You are here, and both you and baby are now safe. Try & see that as already a massive mountain you have already overcome- you had the strength to leave before things got even worse! Be proud!

Right now, just take things one day at a time. Make your health priority for you & baby. Get legal advice, get organised, but dont get overwhelmed by it all. Keep pen & paper handy so you dont have to overload your brain trying to remember things.

You have already come so far by leaving.

I wish you all the very best x

I'm the same I fled with a bag of clothes and no baby I had to go to court to get put back in my care after he abducted them.
I Will be honest it gets easier in some ways but totally depends on what your ex is like.

Very first step is to call the police and make a statement if you haven't already. Please make sure you do this!!!

Call women's aid on the helpline and they will talk to you and refer you to local DV services. They will help you!! I am kept safe by these people they are brilliant.

Find a solicitor ASAP because if he is violent and has PR this is a bad mix I think you should go down this route because contact can be made safe and you won't necessarily have to speak to him. All my ex communications is done via solicitor.
IT WON'T BE EXPENSIVE
Ask your solicitor about legal aid. They can print off a form, get the DV service to fill it in for you and you will get legal aid.

Don't contact him don't meet up with him. If you feel unsafe call women's aid and they can get you into a refuge.

Are you claiming child benefit? The DV services can help you with what you will be entitled to and can even help with housing. Most important thing is to keep you and little one safe.
