So my husband and I split about 3 months ago and he has bought some £40 car seats for them from Halfords. They are not isofix and I'm worried they aren't safe enough.
I've voiced my concerns and he just says they are. I put our youngest in and pulled the strap to tighten the seat belt and the chair moved so much.

What can I do?? I know he can afford it as after maintenance for my kids and his other one he is £1900 left and lives with his parents he's just being a tight arse!!

Any advise ?

As shitty as it is he is allowed to make parenting decisions as he sees fit.
Best plan is to back off for your own mh ime.

Car seats weren't always isofix

As long as the car seat has been tested and bought from a reputable retailer then it should be safe.

Are you able to tell us what car seat he bought?

NorthernSpirit · 09/05/2018 17:22

You can’t control what the dad does on his time. Just like he has no say in what you do.

I doubt a reputable retailer such as Halfords woukd sell an unsafe item.

Let it go. You can’t control this and i’m sure there will be bigger battles.

I have a car seat from Halfords that isn't isofix. It's fine. In fact I've never had an isofix seat. I'm sure the seats will be fine as long as they are the right size for the children.

Take a deep breath and leave him to it. It isn't easy I know but you're going to have to get used to him doing things his way on his days.

SweetIcedTea · 09/05/2018 17:31

This is all good advice, I'm afraid you do have to leave them to it, you won't want him questioning your decisions ( and you'll be making the majority of decisions) and it cuts both ways. It's early days, so pick your battles carefully.

At least your ex uses a car seat! My ex has ignored my concerns and still drives around with our eldest in no car seat!!!!!

OreoMini · 10/05/2018 06:54

I have never had an isofixbseat for my kids and there’s nothing wrong with a £40 seat from Halfords. Hmm

Starlight2345 · 10/05/2018 07:04

If the seat is moving chances are straps just need tightening

SciFiG33k · 10/05/2018 07:25

I'm with the at least he uses a car seat DSDs mum doesn't. DSD still by law must have one.
