How do you divide up Christmas?

This will be the first Christmas as a single mum and ex is trying to put plans in place (we're about to start going to a mediator about childcare) to split the day in two.

I've no idea what the norm is. What do you all do? I feel like I don't want to see my ex on Christmas day but would want to be with dc. However I could cope with every other Christmas I guess but he's only 4 and spends most of his time with me which means it would be tough not to be with him (also not particularly bothered about xmas).

Also having half day is difficult with working out what to do. It would just be me and dc unless I drove to folks 1.5 hours away. I don't know what to do?

If it was court ordered contact you would get alternative Christmas and NY. I can understand why you don’t want to see the EX on Christmas Day and splitting the day can be problematic.

My OH has alternative and it works.

First divorced xmas for me too - though ex-w and I still live under the same roof. Though many other arrangements/discussions have descended into arguments and childish insults, xmas arrangements are not too different from previous years (ie a day at each grandparents' house with that parent), and agreed without stress.
Presents and labelling might be a different matter though......

Good luck and merry christmas to everyone having to make these decisions and arrangements.

Thanks for this. It was tough yesterday doing a handover with someone so unpleasant. I'm going to push for alternate Christmases from next year when we go to mediation in 2018.
