Hi,

Just wondered if anyone could help me with this. At the mo my daughters father earns £37k per year & pays about £170 per month CSA, although he said hes paying more at the mo for arrears.

Anyway, i was wondering if myself and dd's father made an informal agreement between ourselves of him paying me £150 per month how much would i get??

Im not currantly working and receive benefits, & i heard they would take off the extra money so i wouldnt end up with being much better off, if that makes sence???

Sorry, im usless when it comes to this sort of thing, hope that makes sence.

Thanks for helping xx

if you are receiving income support they are unlikely to let you make an informal arrangement, they have to do it thro them so that it pays towards your benefits, it happened to me. they certainly wouldn't let you do it for less than the csa payment

Prettyfull · 28/03/2007 23:51

oh ok i see, i didnt know that, thankyou.

My friend is also on benefits but her ex pays her money each week and they are chassing him up but she gets to keep the £40 he pays her each week, so not sure how it works.

I dont even know if i can trust my daughters father to pay up but im strongly considering it as im finding things very hard with money!

Thanks for help

If you're on income support they will only let you keep £10 a week on top of your benefits. If you go through CSA they will take the money and pay you montly (I get £40 or £50 a calender month). I think if you had your own agreement anything he paid you would be taken off your IS (excluding the £10) so if he paid you £150 and your IS is say £100 you would lose all your IS. Not sure about that though.

Also i think if done through CSA they generally calculate it as 15% of their earnings. Can have a look if you want.

bEllieK · 28/03/2007 23:55

i think you'd probably find that they add that £40 in when they calculate her benefit, so she'll get slightly less to compensate. I was on IS while on Mat leave after ds, they made me put it thro csa then took so long I was off IS by the time they processed it!

any chance he could help you? my ds' dad would buy me nappies if i was short, even tho he was pying csa, but i know i m very lucky with him

bEllieK · 28/03/2007 23:56

hi Pesha

it is 15% of his earnings if for one child

Prettyfull · 28/03/2007 23:57

ok, so maybe i should just leave it as it is....how crap is that!

Ok so, if i get back to work would i receive the full amount then lol??

The reason this has come up is bcoz the past 2 and half years my CSA payments have been going in to a diff acc of mine which i didnt know, but it was going towards an overdraft iv changed bank details over now, but it came up about him paying me direct....that so crap it really it!!!

thanks again

Also, i asked him if he could buy trainners for dd as all her shoes r too small and i havnt got the money right now to pay just yet, he said no

Sorry, not meaning this to sound like a sob story lol, its ok i'l cope

i work and get tax credits (working and child) and the full amount of maintenance that my ex pays (even tho it comes thro csa)
and 70% of my childcare costs paid

so yes, could work out better for you

see the lone parent advisor at the job centre, they can do calculations

Prettyfull · 29/03/2007 00:02

Yes i think i will def do that, but not sure im ready to leave dd yet, but wil soon since she'l start nursery in jan.

Thanks all for advise

doesn't sound like a sob story, we've been there ourselves

i'm just very lucky with my ex, but he's exactly the same as yours if i'm seeing someone

Pesha · 29/03/2007 00:03

Hello again!

My xp didnt pay CSA for ages then was paying for about a year with noone telling me Did mean i got a nice cheque of backpay when i found out though! But IS told me I wouldnt get any of it and didnt really have a clue so i rang csa and they just pay £40 or £50 direct into my account each month and my IS has stayed the same. XP is actually paying £200 a month though but they keep all the rest.

But as ellie said if you're not allowed to receive money from him doesn't mean he cant help out with nappies or clothes or things, if he's willing to.

Pesha · 29/03/2007 00:10

X posted loads, sorry, Im being slow again tonight

Would definitely recommend new deal advisor at job centre.

I think even working part time once you go over 16 hours (is that right?) you come off IS and go onto tax credits and then get to keep all maintenance and they'll give you £250 i think it is for going back to work and help with interview and clothing costs and they'll pay your rent and council tax for an extra 4 weeks to cover you incase you're paid monthly in arrears. Think they do the same with child care costs too, that is pay first 4 weeks.

bEllieK · 29/03/2007 00:15

yeah, i had the first month's nursery fees paid, but it is a discretionary payment and depends what they've got left in the pot IYSWIM, this is the same money as the £250 for clothing etc, and is all dependent on what they have. I was lucky and got the full £300 but that was 3 years ago!

the housing and c/tax run-on is definite tho.

and yes, if you work 16hrs+ you switch to working tax credit, money towards childcare and no IS so full maintenance!

good luck x
