Lone parent, working full time and applying for council house

Hi, I am a single mum to a two year old DD. I've been a stay at home mum for the past couple of years. I am currently renting privately, paying £525 per month. I'd like to apply for a council house but wondering if I should bother now that I have a full time job. My new job pays £24,500 per annum. Is it worth still applying for a council property? Thank you.

I very much doubt you'd get one considering you have a decent job and can afford your rent.

Thank you, I just thought I'd ask.

No harm in putting your name down on the housing list if you are able.

It's always worth joining the waiting list, we earn more than you and have a HA house, depending on the area the waiting lists may not be that bad

I'd still apply and bid for ones you like as one day you could be top of the list.

Your earnings make little difference to your priority as you're not homeless or overcrowded etc.

It's based on need not earnings. Social housing is also not just for the people with lower incomes it's for all - just priority is given to certain circumstances.
