It's so frustrating.

The first one is in a library but is only 15 hours. The second is a playgroup assistant but is only 10 hours and then the third is in a card shop but is only 12 hours.

I don't mind that it is so few hours but I would need childcare and obviously would get no help with the cost of that if I am working less than 16 hours.

nutty, when i applied for the job i have now it was advertised as 15 hours. i got through interview and when my boss offered me the job i explained to him about coming off benefits and that i would need 16 hours or more. he was absolutely fine about it, i do an extra half hour a day and that's enough for me to not claim benefit. its really worth asking. if they say no, they say no.

Ok ta, will try them tommorow.

Will go into the card shop tommorow too and ask about that one. It is 12 hours but will ask what the likely hood is of it being made up to 16 in the future.

what kind of childcare are you thinking too nutty? i work three days but if i worked five (say morning) i wouldnt be able to get back in time for it to count as a half day and would have to pay five full days childcare. dont forget to consider that if you're using nursery/childminder.

nightowl · 19/03/2007 20:16

sorry, just noticed you said it was every morning. dont tax credits help with before/after school clubs? i cant remember. had forgotten what ages your kids were too.

NuttyMuffins · 19/03/2007 20:16

Well at the mo ds does 2 full days at nursery (well 9-3) so i could try and swap those days around if need be and then my mum said she'd try and request set shifts at work for any other days.

Ds starts school in sept so then i'd possibly only need before or after school clubs or a childminder if my mum couldn't have them.

It's the school hols that always puzzle me cos obviously i'd probably need more childcare then but it is only a few weeks of the year.

They don't make it easy do they ?

Tax credits will help with the before and after school clubs if I do over 16 hours but not if it's under.

Nutty tbh I wouldn't ask them until they offer you the job.

Don't give them any reason to find you a problematic candidate up front.
