My mum has always sorted that side of thing for me. Tbh it's not really the exes job but it would be nice if he did. I probably wouldn't say anything though. Happy birthday Flowers

My dad never bought anything for us to give to our mum for her birthday, and she never did anything for his after the divorce. Dh doesn't do anything for dss mum either. I think once the relationship ends you shouldn't have to remember your ex's birthday

LadySybilLikesSloeGin · 02/03/2015 14:12

My ex has never done this, not for Mother's Day either.

Happy birthday Thanks Wine

mysparkleismissing · 02/03/2015 14:13

I'd never expect his mum to do it for him. we are pretty amicable and do stuff for mother's/father's day and Christmas he's done something the past 2 years.

just hope my boy doesn't feel bad.

thanks nannyj

it's not til tomorrow but I won't see my ex til Friday now.

I wouldn't but my ex wouldn't piss on me if I was on fire, so it's a different situation.

I'd be upset though. In your case I would probably mention it. Could it be he has remembered but doesn't want the responsibility any more?

allshineon · 02/03/2015 14:34

I'd either agree that this is something you will do for each other in advance so you know it is mutually expected. Or get friend or relative to do this for you, preferably the latter for me because I'd probably end up wrapping the contents of my dogs poo bags and giving it to my ex. But hey thats just me. Wink Happy Birthday Wine

We do Mothers/Fathers Day as well as birthday and Xmas gifts for each other because the kids are old enough to be embarrassed at not having a gift on those days. They are old enough to pick and wrap a gift so I just have to pay and take them to a supermarket or B&M type discount store.

MissWimpyDimple · 02/03/2015 17:08

We do it too, although I do feel now that he has a new family, his new partner ought to sort it!

Starlightbright1 · 02/03/2015 19:35

My Ex once bought me a chocolate bar..I mean a standard size bar for mothers day from my DS..He was 2 so knew no different and I just let him eat it. For that reason I would rather of had nothing. The last Christmas I he saw his dad he got a 29p book from home bargains but as he was paying £5 a week maintenance ..

How old is DC? Can they make you a card.. more sentiment than any gift from an Ex

ThinkIveBeenHacked · 02/03/2015 19:39

A friend of mine has just had this happen to her.

It underlines my opinion of her Ex. That he is a pit stain.

mysparkleismissing · 04/03/2015 09:25

now how to react

I would say it depends on your relationship. Also, maybe you could take your ds out and get him to choose something for you? If you do think he'll feel bad that might help.
I don't think it's the exes responsibility so I wouldn't say anything. It would be nice but it shouldn't be expected.

rachaelmay82 · 06/03/2015 10:52

My wee one's Dad didn't even acknowledge her birthday!
My Mum does that at Christmas/my birthday sorts out something from her.
I would never expect it from an ex.
