Going on holiday with my 2 kids, am I mad?

Hi,
I haven't been on a holiday abroad since splitting with their dad 6 years ago. I've had an illness 4 years ago which took me 2 years to recover and I'm finally brave enough to go on a holiday abroad with my 2 dc.
I'm looking to go to gran canaria for May half term. I've saved the money and found a great hotel, all inclusive, pool with slides to keep dc happy.
I'm hesitating booking it as I'm scared something might go wrong, flight delays, hotel overbooked or transfer not turning up and we will be stranded.
Please tell me to get a grip and it'll be fine. Have any of you gone abroad on your own with the kids?
I have taken them here in the uk and it was fine but was closer to home

You'll have the most amazing time Smile

Go for it! Not only will you have tremendous fun, it will be totally liberating, and yes, easier.

Have a check list of everything you need. Allow extra time for the travelling part. If you are worried about losing your luggage, for example, have emergency supplies in your carry on - the kids get one too. Spare A Tshirts each, change of underwear, tooth bush and brush, for example.

You deal with it all every day - this will be the same, just somewhere warm and sunny.

Thanks for all your replies. I'm really excited now and wishing the time away until we fly.
Still got to sort out the hotel and parking at the airport.
Good idea to buy 2 lots if sandwiches, my 2 are always hungry and I don't want to spend a fortune for food on the plane (we're flying Ryanair). Also will only take hand luggage and I'm already looking for naice bags. The allowance is10kg each which I think should be enough. Previously I always packed far too much and never wore half of it. I reckon most of the time we'll be in swimsuits anyway.
Already thinking of how much spending money we need. It's an all inclusive hotel so no need to buy food etc. I do want to do some excursions though.
Also will have to sort travel insurance as I've ended up with a chronic condition I guess it will have to be a specialist one. Does anyone have any recommendations?

Passthewineplz have you googled how much the food is where you're going? It might be cheaper there than here.
Have you thought about getting a hotel at the airport?
Please let us know how it went, I'm sure you'll have a fab time.

You will have a lovely time, I love planning holidays, it's so exciting.

I am not a lone parent but I have taken the DCs abroad on holiday alone several times starting when they were 6 and 4. I always leave our insurance details and flight and hotel details written down with DP. I was also advised by an immigration officer to carry a photocopy of the DC's birth certificates in the back of their passports (as we don't have the same last name). Since I have started doing that I haven't been asked anything at passport control.

Have a lovely time!

I am off with my 7 year old in a couple of weeks first time abroad for him ....I am well travelled however not for a long time. I am excited and very nervous.. I have gone for the all inclusive. transfer...All included to make it easier.

We went on a caravan holiday on our own in the summer...To be honest it was much easier on our own than with others we have travelled with.. WE did what suited us with no consideration of other people.

Hope yours run smoothly
