Lone parent benefits income

HereBeHubbubs · 24/09/2014 19:36

I just wondered if anyone on this board MIT be interested in contributing to my thread over in AIBU?

I have stated my benefits income as a lone parent and it's making an interesting discussion.

I did want to post it here rather than in Am I Being Unreasonable because it's about lone parents after all, but I thought there might be more traffic on the other board.

I hope you will join. I'm genuinely interested to hear my fellow LP's views
:)

Saw your thread in AIBU.

I get less than you. did pm you I think, awaiting a reply.

I really struggle, im lucky if I have £150 or so for the week, that goes on food, petrol (me and DC disabled and have to have a car and I get no other help for it) any unforeseen costs, bills etc.

also I don't get any help (long story) with night time pullups for DC she has bladder probs, I also have to fork out for those with what I have left.

I do get housing benefit though so that's a load off..

AnyoneForTARDIS · 25/09/2014 18:42

ps- and no maintenance at all from ex, he pissed off and has disappeared from the face of the earth.

AnyoneForTARDIS · 25/09/2014 18:44

pps- sorry, posting too soon! not a competition here btw to see who gets less and who can get the loudest violin out! Grin.

just speaking as a lp with disabilities and and a disabled child.

so my situation may be different from yours.

LadySybilLikesCake · 25/09/2014 18:52

Umm... people will use that to bash LP's, you do know that? Confused Your income from benefits is more than the total which some working people bring in, so I can't see your thread going down very well and there's always going to be someone who thinks that your amount is what every LP gets. I don't think it was wise for you to start that, I'm sorry.

AnyoneForTARDIS · 25/09/2014 18:59

Did notice OP in AIBU there were a few harsher posts, understandable TBH.

I used to work FT before DC and before my disabilities got worse, and I used to struggle then too with rent and stuff so I can understand the posters who are getting a bit miffed too.

Im not better off in any way like this really.

LadySybilLikesCake · 25/09/2014 19:03

I hear you. I'm a LP, I have MS and ds has hypermobility. I work more than full time (from home and shifts dotted over 7 days most of the time). I used to bring in a lot less than 1k a month on benefits. When I had ds I claimed income support and was living off £120 a week, which was for everything except for rent and council tax.

AnyoneForTARDIS · 25/09/2014 19:11

Thanks Lady

longest · 25/09/2014 19:11

Why do you presume that lone parents are on benefits?

I'm a lone parent and get child benefit. That's it.

LadySybilLikesCake · 25/09/2014 19:13

Smile Brew for you. I hope things pick up for you. For what it's worth, I went self employed and did clothing repairs/made clothes/cushions etc for a while. I ended up bringing more in then I would claiming IS, and I could work around being knackered.

AnyoneForTARDIS · 25/09/2014 19:14

I know not all LPs are on benefits, I speak as a genuine need for having to have Government financial support for our disabilities.

I know a few LPs that work FT/PT.

Maybe Ops just speaking from her circumstances as am I?

longest · 25/09/2014 19:16

Sorry I was addressing the OP, although looking back I appreciate it didn't look that way Tardis.

AnyoneForTARDIS · 25/09/2014 19:16

That's a good idea,Lady and well done btw, when Dcs a bit older we could do something like that if its feasible.

Know what you mean about working around being Knackered Grin.No time to sleep!

EllenMumsnet · 25/09/2014 19:17

Evening all. Just wanted to let you know that we'll shortly be zapping this thread as, clearly, it's a 'thread about a thread' (TAAT), and we tend to discourage those. However, please do feel free to chip in to HerebeHubbubs thread in AIBU, and of course to report anything on there that you think breaks our guidelines.

Thanks to all.

AnyoneForTARDIS · 25/09/2014 19:19

That's okay Longest I wasn't sure who you were speaking to. Smile

I do get all defensive and not wanting to be in the stigma (theres a thread in AIBU about a daily fail story about a lp on benefits and it just gets my hackles up), as theres genuine and not genuine!)

LadySybilLikesCake · 25/09/2014 19:22

It's not a TAAT, Ellen. This was started by the OP of t'other thread to bring more people to hers, and no one's using this thread to bitch about the first one Confused

AnyoneForTARDIS · 25/09/2014 19:25

Same thought as me, Lady.

HQ yy op has shared her post on both threads.

shes a lone parent and so has joined the LP site.

misstiredbuthappy · 25/09/2014 19:27

I dont mean this in a negative way but why did you make a thread stating what you get and how much ?

Meglet · 25/09/2014 19:29

It's not a TAAT. She's discussing it somewhere safer than AIBU.

Anyway herebe. I work PT and do get maintenance, so slightly better off than you. Just becase some employers pay shockingly bad wages doesn't mean that LP's should be even worse off!

LadySybilLikesCake · 25/09/2014 19:32

What about folk who post the same thread in different areas to get more responses, are they TAAT's too? Confused

AnyoneForTARDIS · 25/09/2014 19:34

Ive done that before, started a threa d in one site, and then went to another with same subject for either a different perspective or more traffic, or realised I should have put it in a different site in the first place!

and yes, AIBU is notorious!

LadySybilLikesCake · 25/09/2014 19:36

I wouldn't start a thread in there, I'm not brave enough Grin

morethanpotatoprints · 25/09/2014 19:40

Misstired

The OP started a thread to counteract another thread where the OP was stating she got too much on benefit.
This OP did it to set the record straight.

misstiredbuthappy · 25/09/2014 19:40

You cant say anything on AIBU without getting flamed can you.

I havent read the whole thread were people mean to the OP ?

morethanpotatoprints · 25/09/2014 19:41

Whoops!

Now this is a post about another thread, talking about another thread.
Triple Whammy, do I get a prize?

AnyoneForTARDIS · 25/09/2014 19:42

I started 2 threads in my time on mn (2 years now) on AIBU.

Never again! ended up namechanging both times as posts got so nasty.

BTW I didn't write anything goady at all.

I may post once in a while, depending on subject but never starting a thread there again.
