Anyone else feeling trapped in this country, but obviously lacking the finances to travel? It's 8yrs since I got on a plane (Greece) and I have itchy feet. Pre-dc's I saw Europe, the States, India and China so TBH I'm hardly deprived Blush.

Rio has always been on my bucket list and watching it every day for the last month has set me off. Italy is also on my list, I'd love to see Florence and Rome.

The dc's are 7 and 5, I have hardly any money and DS has some allergies so we won't be going anywhere for years. But I want to see more of the world before I die (am 40, could have 60yrs yet).

I am kind of the same. I have holidays as in time off but no money to really go anywhere, even a few days in this country would require a lot of saving. Sigh!

I've done the sensible thing and googled prices to Rio and Copacabana prices, it would be £4.5k for the 3 of us for a few days. If I start saving now and no household appliances break for 15yrs we could go when the dc's finish Uni Grin.

Oh yeah, I know the feeling! I really want to go to Japan. Also, I want to take dd to Turkey. I rather fancy a blue cruise and then staying in a treehouse near the beach.

I can't go anywhere because I've loads of debt to pay off (solicitors fees for family court, oh thank you, ex).

Oh well. I've travelled in the past and will travel one day again. In the meantime, no dodgy tummies and heat rash, I suppose.

Seriously though I've always dreamed of going to New York, Paris and Las Vegas I NEED to go. Im trying to save and when dd is older id love to be able to take her.

To be honest right now id be happy to go anywhere :)

Going back to Uni paid for my holiday. Saved me a fortune month to month despite the loan for fees. And of course you are off when the children are too.

I know exactly how you all feel. The summer brings out the urge to travel off to far distant climes. Owing to the crippling cost of childcare once again I can't afford to go abroad and I find endlessly remaining in England more than boring!

I would prefer to go to Morocco or Tunisia in Africa as a destination. I have been in the past on holidays there and Europe is rather limiting as a holiday option. I can't believe so man people still go away in England when going abroad can be so much cheaper....!

It strikes me it is largely single people without dependants who can afford great holidays or the more privileged couples out there. The rest of us just have to put Al Jazeera on as an international news channel to spice things up or read Newsweek for some international breadth/colour!! Pretending we are away for a few hours ......

Even Mango have started allowing couples to go on some of their holidays I assume so that they can get enough bookings. Having said that Mango is rather pricey.

Yes, I watch Russia Today and Al Jazeera sometimes.

I do love the UK, been in the same town my whole life, but I need to get out there and see the world every so often. My DSIS is an epic traveller (even Outer Mongolia Envy) so I get the second hand travel experience.

Same here revealall. I loved backpacking during uni summers with my toddler DD in tow, we did it on a proper student budget. You don't need loads of money to be able to travel, not much more than you'd need as a normal young backpacker. And lots of places overseas aren't too expensive to get to and very cheap once you get there but seem properly exotic compared to the UK, e.g Eastern Europe. I never used any companies, just booked flights/trains and hostels by myself.
