Hi, guys.

Just thought I'd ask here. Someone may know as I've been trying to get through to someone at the DSS all morning to no avail.

I'm in receipt of benefits.
A friend's asked me to do a little work for him, about 5 hours a week.

How much money am I allowed to earn before they dock my income support, or does it work by how many hours you do?

Hoping someone can help soon.
Thanks in anticipation.

I think, not 100% sure though that you can earn £15 before it starts affecting your benefits.

Hi again.

I still cannot get through. The line's either engaged or just rings out! What a pain.

I started the work this morning.

Thank you both for the reply.

I'd be inclined to put it in writing & send in a payslip or letter from your friend confirming the arrangement. Otherwise they could well stop your benefit until they have proof of everything - hth

Its called permitted work and you are allowed to earn £20 per week before it comes of you're benefits, anything that is earned over that comes off pound by pound.

Butterfly wait until you start working and as soon as you get you're first wage slip send it in with a covering letter, they might ask to see other wage slips now and again but as long as you have them you should be ok.
