CSA case - going from unemployed to working

Has anyone had experience of this part of their process? Ex has been out of work a year so been getting the £5 per week payment - he started working at the start of this month, and I suspect the last £5 payment went into my account last week. I've no idea when ex gets paid his 1st wage, or what his actual salary is either. I'm assuming minimum wage so not expecting a huge payment, but clearly more than £5 a week!

What I'm wondering is, does the CSA automatically know ex is now working as his payments benefit claim has ended, or do I need to contact them? I'm not sure what ex has done/is doing with them so I'm in the dark. If CSA know he's working, do they wait 3 mths for him to get his wage established, calculate his payment and then add in the 3 mths arrears, or do they start payments from his 1st wage, based on what his contract of employment states his annual salary will be?

If it's up to me to contact them, would they pay any heed given that I have no real info to give them? I don't know his annual salary or the name/address of the company/employee number etc.

I'm just trying to get an idea as to when I can expect new payments to be started, how they'll be worked out, and if I need to do anything or just wait/leave them to deal with things.

Hasn't it changed very recently and you now have to come to an informal agreement with the absent parent otherwise you have to pay the CSA to open a case.

It sounds like an old arrangement, Fully.

You need to contact them to let them know of a change in circumstances. If you don't tell them, they won't know and they won't reassess the maintenance. The quicker you contact them, the quicker they will sort it, but they will need for him to send proof of his earnings etc so it won't be quick.

They will get in touch with him. All you need to do is call them and let them know.

This is the trouble as CSA is an outsource, not part of HMRC (oddly!). They have no more information than you do. Call and tell them you know he will be working again soon and they will look into it (send him forms and call).

So the end of the benefit claim/payment calculation doesn't trigger the CSA to contact my ex about his new job, it's up to me to contact them if my ex hasn't?

Yes....theoretically he should notify them within 7 days of starting a new job, but strangely enough I wouldn't rely on that happening....With my ex, we found out by accident that he was working, and initially they were going to backdate payments to when I initially contacted them to let them know he might be working......but then they found on their system that the benefits office had noted that he had failed to attend an interview for jsa and wasnt' getting payment, so they could backdate it to that time instead....So contact them asap.

CSA is part of DWP not HMRC. They won't do anything unless you tell them, but then should be able to link into HMRC systems to confirm how much he's getting.

This is answering my question I posted under the blogger.

So what happens now if the payments taken from his benefits just stop? I won't know if he 's working or found some other arrangement. If they are part of DWP won't they know that's he stopped claiming and tell mea? I'll have to pay £20 to get them to sort out whatever his new circumstances are?
anyone know when this new agency actually kicks in?

They get notified either going back to work or going onto benefits but it takes up to 6 weeks for them to be notified, then a further 6 to reassess it. It is quicker to tell them if you know and then they can call the nrp. I've had this happened three times in the last year, and just as they set up a direct debit for ex to pay, he cancelled it. He's how walked out of the job again, meaning back to benefits and the 6wk assessment.
