After a nightmare year struggling to make things work with dp we have finally decided its best to end things now and at least we will be able to keep it amiciable before its all gets nasty.

My question is I work 16hrs a week and need to know how much WTC and CTC I will be able to claim. Also need to find out how much housing benefit and council tax benefit I will be entitled to. I have tried two different sites entering the same details and they came out with totally different amounts.

The amount calculated on entitledto. would be sufficent for me to manage on.
The amount calculated on the inland revenue site would be impossible for me to cover the basics.

Anyone have any experiences of using either site and now how accurate they are? Or can you recommend any other websites which will be able to calculate what I'll be entitled too?

Hi fifi, i'm sorry I can't recommend the websites or anything but my sister is a single parent and looked into working a few hours; she found out wasn't worth her while cos if she worked, her benefits reduced by the same amount that she would bring home (give or take a little), so she didn't bother.

Of course this would depend on how much you earned, and whether you want to go back to work or not.

Sorry its a bit vague, i'm sure someone more knowledgeable than me will post something more useful soon. Good luck! x

best thing to do is see a lone parent advisor at the job centre - they will sort it all out for you.

You'll be able to do TC and any claim for benefits if you dont work all in the one place

I'd make an appointment with the CAB first off, because, apart from anything, it's rare to find a website which covers off all aspects of a particular individual's circumstances.

Whereas the CAB are usually pretty much up to speed about everything. Good luck.

The amount on the IR website will be between now and the start of April

So work out how many weeks are left and divide by that
