will I be better off if my partner moves in??

I am a single mum of 1 child but I am also a carer to my disabled mum (she does not live with us). I currently get Carers allowance, income support, child tax credit and child benefit as well as full housing and council tax benefit. I have been with my partner for nearly 2 years and we have talked about moving in together he works full time earning £15000 per year. I have tried the online calculators but seem to be getting different results one (direct.gov) says we would get working tax credit of £89 per week plus child tax credit and one(turntous) seems to say £1.52 per week as you can imagine an £87 a week difference is a lot and as I would loose £45 income support and all housing and council tax benefit it would make us a lot worse off can anyone give me any advice on this please as I am really unsure what to do.

You would most likely lose housing benefit nd council tax benefit.your figure for working tax seems 2 high,maybe it will be for the child tax instead.it seems crazy but you prob would be worse off.

Thanks for the reply I rang them today and found that I would loose all housing and council tax and income support a total of £175 per week and as my partner only takes home £250 before travel costs car etc I don't think it will work especialy as I have been told we would not be entitled to working tax at all because his gross income + my carers = more than 17000 per year :-(

Would you be able to cope though?

A lot of couples would be better off financially if they lived separately, but if you really want to be with someone and live with someone you make it work.

unfortunately we would not be able to cope as by the time he had paid the £50 a week car cost (its not yet paid for) and fuel of about £40 a week to go to work we would be left with nothing for food etc. we will have to wait a while, I have been looking for a part time job anyway so hopefully that will help and we will be living together soon
