Teasmaid as sick of having no one to treat me to a cuppa in bed

After having yet another rubbish nights sleep and wishing I had an other half to treat me to an occasional cuppa in bed....I've decided to look into the idea of buying a teas maid! Probably makes me sound a right saddo!

Not sure if they still exist?
But would be so nice to wake up to a cup of tea especially with winter coming.
Anyone else have one? Any other tips for pampering ourselves a bit? Seeing as we have no one else to help us?

Heehee!

Thanks all. This weekend I am going to make one of my amazing cappuccinos and put it in a travel cup or actually probably thermos flask. I don't care if its not piping hot once it tastes nice and there's caffeine in it. Thanks for the idea above poster :-D

This weekend? I think I'll have one in bed tomorrow nmorning! You are a genius with this thermos idea!

A flask! Why have I not thought of that. LP also and the not getting a cuppa in bed is the only downside for me, especially when I'm ill. Have had awful flu bug and chest infection this last week and have been dreaming about someone bringing me hot drinks in bed. Not sure I'd actually get to drink them in bed mind as ds is my very early alarm clock!
I am inspired by this thread and feeling just a tad dim for not thinking of it myself.

My kitchen kettle has just packed in - I'm torn between buying one nice new one for the kitchen or 2 value ones so I can have one in the bedroom too!

Never buy value kettles lol.

Well I had my coffee in Tesco thermos mug this morning. Colder than room temperature so an 'iced' coffee if you will but it did still have caffeine in it so it wasn't too bad. Wanted to try out the mug first but didnt really expect it to work :-)

Tonight it's the proper thermos flask.

ProtectiveMother - hope you get warmer coffee tomorrow. 'Iced' coffee is def better than no coffee though!

TwoStepsBeyond - I used to buy nice kettles... but my current kitchen one is value and it does the job and my travel kettle is worth every penny!

I am a convert. 2 mornings of quite hot (at least very warm lol) coffee in my bed. My thermos is bright red so I can see it on my bedside table in my bleary eyed state ;-)

This is a fab idea, I may have to join in!

Is no one else cringing at having a travel kettle in their bedroom with kids about?? I have a huge skin graft scar from knocking a kettle as a child. Maybe if you have teens but even my 8 year old I wouldn't trust to have a kettle in my room.:-/ I am aware I am uber cautious though due to my scars.

May have to look at teasmaids, I find thermos flasks taste weird after a while, I used to have a couple for days out and binned them in the end.

Yay to red flasks and hot coffee.

We do of course need to be careful about safety with kettles and the same would apply I think with teasmades.

Here's to that little bit of pampering because we're worth it - cheers Smile

ProtectiveMother maybe I need to treat myself to a new one, I do love a good cuppa! Grin

My birthday is coming up so I think a teasmaid or flask would be a nice way to treat myself. Like you say Rita we are worth it.

I have been looking at buying a teasmade as well. I've only recently split with partner and when we were together I was constantly disappointed as he never ever made me a cuppa in the morning, although he would quite happily drink the one I brought him every day. So I'll be reading this for recommendations.

I keep a little travel kettle in my room & a jar of coffee on a tray.
I use the mug to put the right amount of water in the kettle the night before & have a small flask I keep the milk in which keeps it cold & free from dust/flies etc..
That way I can make a nice big mug of coffee, not the little cups they seem to have on the machines & I can use any cup I want.
As there is only hot water in the kettle when I'm sat beside it boiling it to make my drink it's no problem & I have a remote to switch the socket off when I'm not using it.
I can easily bring the cup, spoon & flask etc.. down on the tray to wash it up with the other stuff & then I bring it up at night on my way to bed.

Last mothers day, for a change I brought up pain au chocolat in an airtight container & an extra flask with chilled fruit juice too.
Worked really well.

When I'm ill, I use the kettle for stuff like lemsips or cup a soups without dragging myself out of bed so it comes in really handy.

On winter nights I break out the instant hot chocolate or Malted drink & watch something like Miracle on 34th Street curled up in bed rather than having the heating on high after my son has gone to bed & if it gets cold enough I'll use it for hot water bottles without having to go downstairs.
Not every night, but quite a lot of them - means I get a good long nights sleep as well as I'll drop off if I'm tired which I wouldn't do downstairs.

My gas bill dropped by about a quarter in the cold months since I started doing that.

Added bonus is, when the (wildly overpriced) kettle in the kitchen breaks the day after the guarantee expires, the trusty little cheap travel kettle can fill in for it until I get a new (wildly overpriced) kitchen kettle.

If I ever go on holiday, I might bring it too and finally use the teeny plastic cups that came with it.

Simbolic that's a great post, has given me lots of ideas thanks.

I've been using my travel kettle just for coffee in the mornings so far, I've been using kenko sachets which also contain milk.

Love the lemsips and cup a soup idea ooh and will be great for warm ribena! Maybe pot noodles too at a push!

Lidils do some nice chocolate filled croissants that are individually wrapped. Five for 99p I think, I have some of my them in my bedside cabinet too!!

I do sometimes go to bed with a book and hot water bottle to save having the heating on. Don't have a telly in my bedroom but a DVD on the laptop or IPlayer sounds like a great idea.

Almost lost looking forward to winter now!

I have an ancient one but sadly don't use it as DH only drinks earl grey. Not sure it can make 2 different drinks??

summer if it's a Swan teasmade the water just goes into one pot. The Breville you have a two cup option.
