Spider trapped under glass in my living room - another thing need a man for!!

I know, I know, I'm a wimp but it's at times like this I really wish I had a man to rescue me.

It was scary enough putting the glass over it, I will really need to pysche myself up to put a card underneath and put the horrible thing out.

I've been known to phone a friend to do it!! (Except have to book my friends about 3 weeks in advance these days and don't think spider would last that long!)

I do my best to keep up the persona of being a fairly strong working lone parent but sometimes it's the little things that make me wish I had a man to look after me!

Know what I mean?

Give the spider a name - talk to him for a bit, he wont seem so scary if you think of him as being vulnerable and needing rescuing.

I feel your pain - I had to dispose of a slug from the kitchen floor at 2am this morning. I couldn't sleep for ages cos I was so freaked out!

AnnoyingOrange · 04/08/2013 12:53

I have trained my ds2 to do it Grin

He's 11

RitaFajita · 04/08/2013 13:22

I've been talking to 'Spike' from a distance, will hopefully make me less scared of him!

Slugs - not nice either, know what you mean about keeping you awake Spike has been in the glass overnight!

Lucky you AnnoyingOrange - good work (smile) I've a DD and she's only 7. She likes 'bug hunting' in her grandad's garden although he has to pick them up for her. Sadly he's on holiday just now!

My ex used to scream & jump on the sofa if he saw a spider, and he was 6ft 2 and 18 stone.

So to answer your question, no I don't know what you mean when you say you need a man for spider removal Grin

RitaFajita · 04/08/2013 17:51

Finally managed to put it out (chucked it in to next door's garden - shhhh!) think my heart rate is slowly getting back to normal!

Any new possible bf must not be scared of spiders like your ex TheBakeryQueen - that must have been a sight worth seeing for comedy value though Smile

I think this may be a better investment than a new bloke!

But then I'm a cynical hardened cow now the slug has gone!! Grin

Well done on Spikes removal!

RitaFajita · 04/08/2013 18:29

Thanks sillmillyb that looks great will have to get one.

I agree it seems like a much more sensible and reliable investment Grin

I'm with Bakery Queen. Bully boy ex hates spiders (evil grin) The only time I miss him is when one of the kifs blocks the toilet.

cestlavielife · 04/08/2013 22:40

Don't be silly. Nothing to do with having a man.
Buy a spider catcher.

Pipparivers · 04/08/2013 22:51

I don't know how you can get close enough to a spider to use a catcher without it attacking you?!

Surely the only fail safe method is by dropping a dictionary on it from a great height, standing on the dictionary and then leaving the dictionary in place with spider underneath until you have recovered from the shock.

BlackeyedSusan · 05/08/2013 01:03

you don't need a man. just a big shoe.

twack! job done.

TheBakeryQueen · 05/08/2013 06:00

Rita it was quite hilarious except he couldn't get a grip in front of the dcs & now the oldest is scared of spiders too.

SnoopyLovesYou · 05/08/2013 09:21

Also have an ex who was afraid of spiders. I have to say I don't miss him for anything at all around the house & I'm glad he's gone. If another spider appears, maybe it would be a really cute way of meeting one of your attractive male neighbours? Suss out some likely candidates. They may come in handy for all sorts of things! ;-)

RitaFajita · 05/08/2013 16:41

Not sure about the shoe or book - hoovered one up once and felt a bit bad (briefly!)

Lackedpunchesforever - loving the evil grin, hope you're never tempted to spider scare him Wink

Snoopy - haven't seen any good looking guys around here - but if there were, it would be worth going on spider patrol Smile

I use a colander. It can still breathe and has a wider footfall so easier to trap it under. Then slide a large piece of card under. I was petrified of house spiders but after 4 years living onmy own I've become ok about catching them.

What helped was dusting under my bed for the first time in 7 months and seeing a bluddy great thick web with one of them whoppers sat in it, realising I'd been going to bed every night with it right underneath me :/

MariaLuna · 10/08/2013 02:05

I am a LP and have Buddhist tendencies Grin

So our bathroom spider is our house pet..

He disapears from time to time, but hey, when I look up and he is there I just say "Hi, where were you, good to see you again" LOL

Sure don't need a man in my shower only in my bed LOL (cos they always hog the water, eh?!)

the joys of being a LP with the house pet spider eh?!

jessebuni · 17/08/2013 11:44

I also glad I found this thread just for the spider trap link! I NEED one! If the spider is small I'm fine if its big I don't mind it being there for a bit but I don't want to pick it up and whilst I am no longer a single parent, my husband is home from work so rarely it often feels like it! That being said well done on spike removal because my husband is more scared of spiders than me so sometimes a man around the house doesn't even help -_-
