Screaming at night

I have a 9month old boy. He has always been great sleeping in his own bed but I recently had him in bed with me every night for the past 2months as his father passed away. Tonight I have tried to get him to sleep in his bed all night , he did up till 230am then he screamed at the top of his lungs for me to pick him up and bring him to my bed. I tried controlled crying but he doesn't cry at all he just screams beyond belief , screams till he starts choking, it's scary.
I kept picking him up when he was starting to choke then would put him down again , I went over this god an hour but his screaming literally broke me down into tears.
What can I do ? This screaming is scary

I am so sorry to hear your sad news and unfortunately don't have much advice re. The sleeping. I'm sure he'll get there though, it was probably a surprise to wake up in a different place than usual
Someone much wiser will be along soon Smile

This is a classic age for separation anxiety. Can you just let him sleep with you until he is ready to move?

So sorry to hear about your boy's dad. I would imagine that linked in with his crying is a real fear that you will also "leave" him. I think I would keep him with you for now. My two co-slept for years, but eventually went into their own beds (though my 3 yr old ds usually ends up with me still!)

If sleeping with him works for you, I wouldn't rush trying to get him into his own bed - sounds like he really needs to feel you there, and it's too soon at the moment to change that for him.

Agree with pps. Tbh he may just need to be closer than usual. Lord only knows what he's picked up out of all the discussions going on around him at this difficult time.

If however you desperately want him in his own bed how about his own bed in same room. If following this path I recommend that you go and sleep in his room and then withdraw later

I'm so sorry for your loss please don't feel that it's wrong for you to draw comfort from cosleeping with your son at this time. It's perfectly normal in the circumstances and can be changed when your both ready

You poor thing. He's so young and you're going through such a rough time. I would keep him in my bed too I think.
