Camping holidays as an LP

I'd really like to take my DS(7.5) camping this year. Thinking France/Italy - one of those places that has the tents set up already. Does anyone have any experiences (good or bad!) to share or recommendations of companies they have used.

I go camping as a lone parent fairly often, but in the uk, with my own tent etc. only ever had positive experiences but as ours not what you've asked really I can't help :)

i took my dds to La Croix du Vieux Pont Berny Riviere, Paris with keycamp last year - to a caravan but eurocamp do tents there. it is not too far from calais easy drive few hours and had lots to do on site, keycamp does single parent discount and was flexible on dates and days stayed - but they dont do tents any more. eurocamp does tents there still though.

I'd love to do this, just become an lp this year & have 2 preschoolers so couldn't take them to the pool i imagine without it being a nightmare!

I go as a lone parent in UK. I love it and DS 3 has to love it LOL. It is fab and DS has the best sleeps and I actually get a lie in.

People help on the campsite if it gets windy etc and I have a 5 man tunnel tent that I can put up myself and I am only 5 foot! Kampa Fistral bloody brilliant tent.

Sod abroad there are so many lovely places here without the travel. I intend to go once a month this year if the sodding weather is better. Although I go anyway in crappy weather.

I always go electric hookup if I can and I take a proper fridge so I can ahve ice with my G and T of an evening while reading a book

I take a bucket with lid, bin bags and cat litter so don't need to leave dd in tent during night to wee.

I took my DS camping in France when he was 6 years old, we took the tent with us though, there were pre-erected tent/cabin things on the site it was here. Had a great time, they even do some kids events where you can drop them off and have an hour or two to yourself. Loads of cycle hire shops nearby, we hired bikes and swapped for a tag along for a longer cycle ride. We flew to La Rochelle, there is a direct bus to meet the Ryan Air flights.

Was fab. Stayed in a, er, 'shed' is the best way I can describe it which had 2 bedrooms plus another room with a kitchenette. It didn't have its own shower/toilet (they were booked up) so we had to use the communal block for that and I also took a bucket-with-lid type affair from Go Outdoors for nighttime emergencies.

I have often camped in france with dd's as a lone parent - it is fab. Always lots of chidlren for mine to play with and `i find it relaxing

I have been to Italy but it is more expensive and you need swimming hats in a few campsite pools.

Thanks for all the ideas. I have wet fond memories of camping in the UK as a child and would love ds to have similar memories but am just not quite brave enough to buy all the gear and take the plunge here just yet.

When you're ready to take the plunge, keep an eye out on freecycle sites. Freecycle recycle goods, ranging from tents to household items etc. Someone might have one that you could get, and its free! I've donated and received, and its a wonderful site :)
