What size bed have you got?!?

Assuming you a single, what size bed have you got?

Dh and I are separating, at least for a while. Im wondering whether or not to just have a single bed - in order to save space for more interesting things like a desk and a cupboard for my craft stash

What have you got?

A king size because Im 6ft and now my feet don't hang off the end!!! Plus the fact that I like my space so I can sleep in the middle of the bed and cocoon myself in the duvet!! Grin

Caligula · 26/03/2006 21:41

Double.

Nothing is more interesting than the possibility of sex with someone other than the last tosser you had sex with. Don't even think that craft stashes are more interesting.

Aside from which, when your kids are ill and need to sleep with you, or want to come into your bed in the morning, you'll regret it if it's a single.

SleepySuzy · 26/03/2006 21:43

Don't get a single. You will regret it.

busybusybee · 26/03/2006 21:47

Hmmm! Well I had never thought about it like that tbh!

Trouble is Im bound to end up living in a 2 bed place - so the kids will probably have the bigger room. Therefore space will be at a premium. And my stash needs a home!!!!!!!

Also I have no intention of finding another man - well not in the next five years, not unless DH comes to his senses and realises what he has missed :o

Dont go for a single...........

I kept my double, i have 2 visitors during the night, my 2 gorgeous girls, something he will never have the pleasure of...

And i look foward to sharing my double bed with someone new, and having sex with someone new (sex what's that.........)

sanchpanch · 26/03/2006 21:51

I have 2 bed house, the 2 rooms are same size..

I have often thought about giving girls a room each and getting sofa bed for myself, but was talked out of it by my mum, got the girls bunk beds instead which they love..

busybusybee · 26/03/2006 21:51

Oh dear - forgive me for being naive but I never imagined you would all tell me to get a double.

I will need to buy a new bed either way so a decision really does need to be made!

sanchpanch · 26/03/2006 21:53

were you buying a bed anyway?

What if he does come to his senses, he wont want to be crammed into single bed, it might be exciting for the first night but that wont last

Nightynight · 26/03/2006 21:54

double. though it is for me and the children when they come around in the morning, Im not inviting any men to my house.

Grin lol at your post, Caligula.

busybusybee · 26/03/2006 21:58

Why am I buying a bed? I have been asking that question a lot

Our "marital bed" is a king size and due for replacement anyway. He has announced he wants to leave me. He is not sentimental and doesnt care what he sleeps on. I on the other hand would rather start afresh.

New home, new single status, new bed!

Im questioning myself now and wondering whether you are right about getting a double.

Can anyone tell me how wide single, double, king size beds are anyway - websites are confusing!

King size are 5ft 6 right??

Are doubles 5ft?

What width are single beds?

spursmum · 26/03/2006 22:02

You could always get one of \link{http://www.comparisonhq.co.uk/photos/argos,wcsstore/argos/images/6627243mmA58IFN86012M.jpg\these} but they are highly impractical with kids around.

spursmum · 26/03/2006 22:02

Most single beds are 3ft wide. King size range from 5ft6 to 6ft wide.

serenity · 26/03/2006 22:03

90cm, 140cm and 160cm (single, double and king)

busybusybee · 26/03/2006 22:05

SPurs mum - Ive already discounted those because I cant be bothered to climb up and down constantly!

And I would get vertigo :o

spursmum · 26/03/2006 22:08

I'd keep hitting my head on the ceiling!! Grin

busybusybee · 26/03/2006 22:10

Thanks Serenity for those measurements. So.........

Singles are 3ft or 90 cm
Double 4ft 6 or 140cm
King 5ft 6 or 160 cm

fastasleep · 26/03/2006 22:12

You could get a 3/4 size... bigger than single, smaller than double, can take the kids/ luuuurver without you being squished, just use double sized duvet etc...

not sure how rare they are though! I had one as a teen

busybusybee · 26/03/2006 22:17

I think I had one of those to FA - 4ft wide single - much nicer than a standard single but not as big as a double

OP posts:
fastasleep · 26/03/2006 22:19

It's the compromise option :) I'm a crafter too and think my beads would win the argument!!

sanchpanch · 26/03/2006 22:22

get a new double with big under neath draws for your craft bits

fastasleep · 26/03/2006 22:24

Ooooh drawers yes! We have those, I'd forgotten, wow empty storage space buys beads

busybusybee · 26/03/2006 22:30

Oh how dense am I - Of Course I could store stuff under the bed - a double would mean more space for storage!

Plus no longer will dh have stuff lurking under there - There are some positives to the single life after all :o
