Is it wise/possible to have a quickie divorce if you have a child?

STBXH and I have managed to have a pretty good arrangement/relationship since our separation back in Feb 2011 and we will be divorcing in Feb 2013. As we have minimal assets (he got the car, and we didn't own a property) plus his access to our DD (who lives with me) is settled and regular do you think it would be possible (or wise) to use one of those DIY "quickie" divorces?

It should be fine. I'm in the process of divorcing and was actually doing it myself without a solicitor until it got complicated due to ex not communicating and going AWOL from his solicitor. If you have good communication you should be able to do it easily yourselves.

It should be fine, as long as you are in agreement, you can do it very easily. I wouldn't advise this if you had recently separated because you may had not yet a chance to find out if the arrangements for the care of children suit the three of you. But one year on, if it's working, go for it.

Another possibility is to use mediation to sort it. I know that it may not sound as you need it, but it is considerably cheap and they help you to put everything on paper in a tidy way in preparation to be submitted to court. Many mediators have legal training.

Thanks for the advice both of you, think a mediator and diy may be the way forward.
