I'm having no hope with the council & after being threatened to be kicked out twice this week, i've started looking into house sharing. Trouble is, I dont know where to start. What to look for. What do i need to have in order to be allowed to house share? I have a 5yr old DD so obviously it'll be more difficult. Needs to be in this area due to DD's education & my voluntary work.

Has anyone been in a house share before with children? How did you find it? How did you come across it?

I've spoke to the council, email, phone & in person, they're not prepared to help me as im not an emergency. I cant move into private rented, i have no guarantor either.

Spareroom.com, Gumtree, etc etc. Well that is where I advertised for a lodger anyway and I have a toddler so I am sure it might work the other way round.

Also try CAB as they might be able to help you where the council aren't.

Good luck

Be careful though of Gumtree and posting ads there. People will try to scam you.

Look through the ads though from other people who are looking for a room and contact them.

Spareroom does tend to be safer as you have to pay so less chance of being conned which is why I used it. My lodger is fab and is like living with a mate rather than a stranger plus she minds little one if I need to quickly pop to the shops. Other thing you can do is advertise on the local hospital intranet site as at least you know they are CRB checked plus I know lots of lone parent families in nursing...maybe the hours drive their OH away LOL

How do I advertise on the hospital one?

Look up the hospital website and then contact HR I think. x

I am looking for a single parent houseshare. My 5 year old boy goes to school in North Barnes. I am looking for a single parent house share as I would like Oliver to benefit from living in a nice house with a garden (not small flat where we are now) and it would be great to be able share babysitting etc. Houses in Barnes are too expensive. However, a few minutes away in White Hart Lane/Mortlake a 4/5 bed house is 2k-2.5k a month (SW14). Hammersmith is ok too. I need ideally two rooms and so looking to split the rent with another family/families. I work full time in media. I am 41 and very easy going and get on with most people. If of interest please get in touch. Many thanks, Sophie

Are you happy to share a bedroom with your 5 year old? If so you can try gumtree, etc - though most places will want at least a month's deposit. I would look for a room or studio flat with a resident landlord rather than a bedsit with a bunch of single people.

If you want a separate room each that'll be harder - you might need to find someone suitable to share with (eg another single parent) and then look together for a place to rent. I've seen people advertise on here. But it would be a private rented place so between you you'd need to find the deposit, references, etc.

Like Happylander - I had a house with me and kids and then had a succession of lodgers - worked out fine, they were good company and it helped may the mortgage. My kids got on fine with all of them and quite liked having someone else around. I did consider a single dad who wanted to rent the room at one point (he had his son just at weekends) so I guess someone similar might take you and your DC.
