Problem ive got is we were on working and child tax credits those of which have been stopped until my new claim goes through also we got a bit of housing and council tax benefit but ive now reclaimed as a lone parent. Until these all come through im left with £33 a week to live on , mt husband says he has no money to give me im on gas and electric meters which are on emergency at the moment. does anyone know how long income support and tax credits take till i get anything please?

A couple of weeks usually. But jobcentre can issue a crisis loan, so give them a ring

I didn't get my benefits paid until I had a job! I may even have had the first payslip before they came through...a few weeks. I tried to apply for crisis loan but apparently I had to have applied for that sooner. They somehow lost the CSA application too.

as long as they feel like

Did you apply for all of the benefits over the phone in one go or did you apply individual for each one?

I applied for each one individually and things were fairly quick for HB and CTC, IS is the slowest I believe. Its also worth checking that you have selected to have CTC and CB paid to you weekly so that you don't have to wait the 4 weeks (also make budgeting easier if money is tight imo). If you call up both CTC and CB are quite good at changing you over to weekly, especially if you tell them that you are skint and have no food in the house (and a child obviously).

Don't go hungry though...there are plenty of places now that can give you a food parcel.

just went to apply for crisis lone and told there was a note from tax credits to say they had sorted it and id be getting payments from monday so thats a relief just got to wait for income support maintenance and housing benefit. I saw something on the news yesterday about food parcels Cinnamon but not sure where i'd find out about them in my area

google the Trussell Trust and see if there is one near you. Alternatively see what your local churches may offer.

Trussel Trust are around, if you speak to you health visitor or Dr they should be able to refer you to other organisations in your area...Home Start are one organisation but I think you need HV referral. There are other local organisations in our area too. Where abouts are you roughly?
