How, about Channel 4 makes a 5-6 part drama series about the end of a relationship and family breakup. Where neither parent of is portrayed in a flattering light, but allowing the audiance to have sympathy and compassion for both their respective different views and the mistakes they make during the emotional turmoil. However, the solicitors, Mediation, CAFCASS and court are portrayed as the real people that the audiance has no sympathy for, their stance of wanting to be seen as helping the child but really through their lack of effort/resource/professionalism the interests of the child slip through the very people and structures that are supposed to proctect the interests of the child. At first I thought that the character of the child/children would have to be written really strongly that the audience would have to focus on the child being cought in the middle of the mailstrom. However, I thought it might be more affective that less is more, that by showing the child as little as possible the audiance is swept along with the rest of the casts lack of focus on the child. Infact a device of pixelating the child actor/actors that play the child/children could be used on the few occations that the audiance get to see the child on which the drama 'should' be focusing. Thus making it feel more documenatry real, and again making the audiance aware that they are distanced from the character/characters that the drama should be about.
The drama wouldn't make for comfortable watching, think the Threads of relationships, and it really shouldn't have to have a feel good ending. Again like Threads leave the audiance feeling fearful and impotent when relecting the apocalyptical scenario.
Oh well maybe not, how about yet another reality TV makeover show ... sounds cheap safe T.V. to me!
