Help me with mediation

MyLittleMiracle · 12/03/2012 15:56

I have just received a phone call from the mediators, in regards to making an appointment, which they have done for me, which is for later in the month, and I just wanted to know sort of what to expect?

And should i go with a list of what i am prepared to agree to/ do and what i am not prepared to? I just dont want to get pressured into something i am uncomfortable with.

And if so help with the list please? There are alwaysa things you forget

What sort of mediators MLM? Financial or relationship?

MyLittleMiracle · 12/03/2012 16:14

Its mediation in regards of access to our little boy. Which of course he would like, but obviously not at a contact centre, but i have said only via a contact centre, because
1> I do not feel he can control his temper and would be a risk to my son.
2> I do not want any contact with him
3> He stabbed me in the thigh which proves his temper and was abusive in every sense of the word.

The divorce is petitioned, but i am waiting to hear back from that and the fiances are irrelevant, as we have roughly equal debts, and only one of which is in JOINT names,

My goodness MLM - you are good to agree to go to mediation. If your ex stabbed you, then I think you should have a very strong case for access via a contact centre.

I think the most important thing is to keep stressing to everyone that your DS's best interests are all that matter. As his Mum you want to keep him safe & given that your ex stabbed you, the safest way for your ex to have contact with his son is via a contact centre.

Don't feel any pressure to agree anything other than that & if it gets too stressful remember you can ask to have a break or if it is just too awful, you can say you gave it your best shot but don't feel able to go again.

I think I am right in saying that courts look favourably on those who are seemed to be acting reasonably. By attending mediation with your ex you are being reasonable - that doesn't mean you have to agree to his every demand.

My knowledge is a bit limited - so hopefully others may offer you some more advice.

I wanted to go to mediation to look reasonable and partly because i suspected he wouldnt bother with it, within the two weeks, but he did. ONLY JUST, but he did.

I want it to be at a contact centre for what i believe are very valid reasons, it took him 6 weeks to reply last time, and the letter from the solicitor stated that their client had tried to contact them but they had been unavailable at the time........yes, cos someone who sits in the pub and does drugs couldnt possibly phone again later!?

I will be bringing all this up. And i AM STATING that the only time of mediation i would agree to it shuttle mediation, ie where we are in completely seperate rooms, and do not see each other.
