Holiday advice please

We usually holiday with my parents but this isn't possible this year and rather than not go, I thought I'd brave it just the 2 of us.

DS is 4 so is at the age where he likes doing (rather than sleeping...damn it!) He is unlikely to go in a kids club type thing but we need somewhere where there's loads to do.

We usually do beach holidays which we both enjoy and would be looking to go in August.

I've looked at Disneyland Paris but it seemed really expensive. (£2K for 4 nights with food/ flights etc)

Any recommendations/ advice etc would be great.

TIA

We've have a lot of good times with family-oriented walking holiday operators HF Holidays. Have bases in UK and overseas. Not dirt cheap but no single person supplement and children under a certain age get 1/2 price discount. V popular with sociable, active singles that don't want to lie on a beach.

HF Holidays Just checked their website and it's saying children under 11 go free. :)

Cogito - those holidays look brilliant! I'm a bit gutted I'm already booked to go to Bavaria this year - will definitely have to look into one of those for next year! Thanks for the link!

We've been every year since DS was 2 and he's now 11. In the early days we'd join the other mums with toddlers on a little stroll to the beach and back. These days he can out-walk me... 8 - 10 miles no problem!! He loves it because there are lots of other children to charge about with. I love it because, once he's in bed (and there's no listening service but the place is very secure) I get to spend the evenings with other adults. Probably ought to book for this year before I forget.

When my DS was 4, we went to Rovinj in Croatia, which was one of our favourite holidays. Flew with low cost airline to Pula and booked a self catering apartment in the centre of the old town in Rovinj. Lots of beaches, cycle hire to get out of town and a car free centre of town, great food too.

We also camped on Isle of Wight, everything there was free for under 5s, so glad we went then.

Singlewithkids do some good holidays, have been on a few and always had a good time Smile

Try Keycamp - I went to Lake Garda with DS last year, on my own for half of holiday. Cheap flights with Easyjet to Verona airport (from London - I had to fly there from Scotland ad stayed with a friend, not sure where else they fly from). Loads to do - boat tour round lake, up to Monte Baldo, campsite on the lake front, swimming pools, playgrounds, near to Gardaland theme park. I'm sure there are some other theme parks eg safari types there too x

Also consider the Great Dorset SWteam Fair. Kids love being part of it...Cyril the squirrel and his racing terriers. Live Music, sheep shearing demos, fairground rides, herding geese, falconry and hunting displays... it's really good.
