I applied for this around 6 weeks ago, not heard anything yet, wonder when other parents first heard from them and if anyone else's ex has said, 'i'll deny his mine to get out of paying' will csa go ahead with the claim if ex denies ds is his?

I'd suggest you give them a call and ask them if they've got everything they need. If they say yes, then tell them what your ex said. I think the next thing is they arrange for a DNA test, but I haven't experienced this.

In general, I'd chase / check in on the CSA every two to three weeks.

6 weeks is a very short space of time tbh.

If he does deny paternity they can request him to attend a DNA test and he can refuse. Then they would have to get a court order to dmeand one.

Very long and painful process.

After all of that then he could just quit his job/do cash in hand work to get out of paying.

All this happened to my friend.

CSA are notorious for being slow so be prepared. And I mean slow.

It took them 6yrs to collect the arrears my ex owed them.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

With my first xh it took them 4 years to catch up with him Sad
But with my xp it took the standard 12 weeks.....and if anything changes (job change) then that takes 12 weeks to reassess too!

In our case (I admit I'm a stepppie, but I think I can usefully add) DH denied that SD was his (not getting into rights and wrongs but he had good cause to question). When the CSA got in touch, he denied parentage, and had to attend a DNA test. If his ex had failed to attend the case would have been dropped, if he had failed they woukd assume he was the father.

If your ex is on the birth certificate, that will be taken as proof of parentage, and a DNA test isn't needed. Your ex is liable to pay from the date he is made aware of the claim. In our case ex said she'd contacted them in June, made DH aware in Sept. DNA test was November and he started paying shortly after this, including a bsum that was backdated to the September.

my cousin ha had a terrible time with the csa,she has been trying for at least 8 years to get some money from her ex,he is a disgrace..he keeps job hopping,so they have to start again,or goes unemployed,i cant understand how he gets away with it,she tells them he has a new job,and by the time they get intouch he moves on,she tells them not to write to him as he ignores letters and phone calls, but they say its policy to follow these lines first, and she tells them by the time you do all this he will move on or change jobs..

she has kept a diary from day one with dates and times she has phoned them.she knows the job better than the csa as she always seems to get the newbie on the phone who isnt totally sure, its so unfair, she works hard to provide for herself and her son,and he swans round with his gay lover buying alcohol,he should be ashamed of himself, sorry going off on one now..

she is now in the process of claiming compensation for mishandling of her case, she got £5 last month, and he is now claiming he is sick !!

The CSA is the biggest waste of Government funds. Its poorly managed, has the craziest rules ie when they leave jobs the claim starts all over again. Its just ridiculous. How can they decide that because they don't work they only pay £5 a week?? What child costs £5 a week for goodness sake??

It needs scrapping and starting again. Run by mumsnet single mums Grin

And the absent parent has to pay the admin fees Grin
