Me and my dp split on xmas eve. we are still living in the same house as he doesn't have anywhere to go yet. But yesterday i found out he already has a girlfriend who he has been seeing since before we even split up. This is the second time he has cheated on me.
The house is rented. the landlady is doing a new contract saying that im the new tenant from jan 1st. she will be bringing that round in the next couple of days.
I want my ex out NOW as i cant have him living here any more now he has a girlfriend. but he seems to think that by law he has to have 30 days notice from the landlady or can claim sqatters rights.
But i didnt think that he would have any rights as once the new contract is drawn up there is no proof that he even lived here in the first place.

im going to the council tomorrow but i cant wait till then. does anyone know what rights he has?

I'm pretty sure he does have rights. You cant just throw someone out that easily.

notasheep · 02/01/2006 10:21

He needs to be given a months notice

if the contract is up for renewal anyway, then yes you/she can just chuck him out. "squatters rights" do not really exist any more in most cases.

if there is no contract then technically he should be given notice.
