I recently moved back to Ireland after a long time away with my 3 sons. The move has worked out well and I do have family around and nice mum acquaintances from toddler groups but I really would like to do something apart from my dc sometimes. I read lots and watch films when they are in bed but would like to socialise more. I'm limited with time but could get a babysitter once in a while. I just don't know what to do. I'm in a small town without much going on in the winter. I don't like fitness classes but love outdoorsy stuff. Any suggestions?

Welcome home to Ireland Maybee. Where abouts are you living?
I'm thinking of joining my local Drama Society Photography Club. Both seem to have an excellent social aspect to them.

Hey replies already! Actually i googled and did find a walking group though it might be a bit strenuous! In the past i met people at creative writing groups although the local one here is a bit far away.
I am in Newcastle Pilgrim, made the move in March. Before I lived in Glasgow which had more organised stuff to do I guess. It is pretty here but with fewer opportunities for meeting folk. Where are you?

Shame, far away from you Maybee, I'm in Co. Wicklow, are you in Down? Lots of walking groups have introductory hikes, maybe worth contacting www.walkni.com. What about a book club through your local libray, or a film club?

Funny that Pilgrim I've just been googling and ended up on a full moon walk/tours site in Wicklow which sounded fun. Down is a bit far for a coffee but it isn't that far from you I've been to Wicklow before and it was lovely. Theres another really nice Wicklow woman on here that i came across before.
I go to a book group once a month with some nice people. I suppose I'd like to meet other single parents in particular. i'm open to meeting all kinds of folk but I remember years ago when I became a single mum first time round it was a real relief when i met people in a similar situation and we ended up becoming v good friends.
Anyway thanks for the suggestions and take care.
